Kindergarten Readiness Assessment The Kindergarten Readiness Assessment (KRA) is a comprehensive assessment to measure a child s school readiness in the following six components: social skills, mathematics, science, social studies, language and literacy, and physical well-being and motor development. Elementary Diagnostics The primary purpose of the diagnostic assessments is to check the progress of the students towards meeting the standards. Results from the diagnostics are used by classroom teachers to inform their instructional planning. AIMSweb AIMSweb is a universal screener and progress monitoring tool that measures reading and math performance. It can be used to quickly identify students who are at-risk, monitor student progress and report growth. AIMSweb probes are given three times each year to regularly monitor students progress and determine the effectiveness of any interventions. AIMSweb also supports the Response to Intervention (RTI) process. In addition, Olentangy uses AIMSweb as the required state diagnostic in Reading for grades K-3. Ohio s State Tests Ohio s State Tests encompasses content-specific assessments developed by the American Institute of Research (AIR). Each test has two parts that are administered over a 15-day window in April/May. Ohio requires school districts to administer these tests annually and report results on the State Report Card. Additionally, seven high school end-of-course tests are a component of the graduation requirements beginning with the class of 2018. ACT The ACT is a standardized college readiness test that is used for high school achievement and college admissions. The test consists of four sections: English, mathematics, reading and science. Ohio requires that the ACT be administered to students in the spring of their 11 th grade year. If students score at or above the college readiness benchmark in the English, mathematics and reading sections, they will meet one of the three pathways to graduation. TerraNova/InView The TerraNova is a norm-referenced assessment, which means it ranks students based on scale scores and assigns students a national percentile. This assessment is a standardized way to compare our students performance to students from across the nation. The TerraNova is also used for gifted identification. In addition to gifted identification, the TerraNova Reading test can be used as an alternate assessment for student s to earn a promotion score for Ohio s Third Grade Reading Guarantee. The InView is a test of cognitive skills and provides a Cognitive Skills Index (CSI). This score is also used for gifted identification and fulfills the requirement to give students an ability assessment in both elementary and middle school grades. Entity Requiring this Assessment: District Cost: $110,000.00 Grades 2, 3 & 6: Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies & InView Terra Nova is an approved vendor assessment but the district does not collect growth data from it so it is not used in teacher evaluations. Ohio s English Language Proficiency Assessment for the 21 st Century (OELPA21) The OELPA21 fulfills the state and federal requirement to annually assess K-12 students who are Limited English Proficient (LEP) and measures their English language proficiency. The test measures four areas: Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. Student scores are used to measure the district s performance on the Annual Measureable Achievement Objectives (AMAO). Alternate Assessment for Students with Significant Cognitive Disabilities (AASCD) The AASCD is given to students who, per their IEP, are to take an alternate assessment of the required state testing. The assessment measures a student s mastery of the Ohio Academic Content Standards Extended. Based on their performance, students are placed into one of five performance levels: advanced, accelerated, proficient, basic, or limited. Student achievement from the AASCD is factored in the calculation of the Performance Index on the state report card. PSAT The PSAT is a national standardized test that measures skills and knowledge in the areas of reading, writing and language, and math. Score reports provide students with information about their college readiness in these areas as well as how they performed represented as a national percentile. All 11 th grade students who take the PSAT are entered in the National Merit Scholarship Program, which is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships. Advanced Placement (AP) AP Assessments are given during the first two full weeks of May and are used to measure a student s mastery of the AP course content.
