Jeff Eckmann 1966-1970 Jeff s athletic career at New Berlin West covered the years of 1966 1970. During his senior year, Jeff competed as a four-sport athlete in Football, Wrestling, Track, and Baseball. Not only did he compete yearround, he was named a captain of his Football, Track, and Baseball team(s). Additionally, Jeff was named to the Parkland All-Conference team in football and baseball. In his lone year of wrestling he held the highest winning percentage on the team while advancing to WIAA Sectionals. Upon graduating in the top 3% of his class, Jeff was awarded a scholarship to play football at Northern Illinois University. As a member of the Huskies, he was named Defensive MVP on a team that ranked in the Top 20 nationally during his senior year. Jeff was also selected to the Division I Academic All-American football team, the first ever such recognition for an NIU athlete. He was also honored with the Mid-American Conference s Most Outstanding Scholar Athlete award. After graduating from NIU Jeff had a successful career in business, retiring as Group President of Reynolds American, Inc., a Fortune 500 company. He has been honored as a distinguished alum of Northern Illinois and currently serves on several boards of directors. He resides in Destin, Florida and Finchville, KY with his wife, Doreen, a 1971 New Berlin West graduate. Steve Chard Service 2000 - Present Steve has been an avid supporter for New Berlin West High School for the past 17 years. As a member of various school organizations, and community businesses Steve s time, energy, and donations served various programs throughout the school. As the chair of many fundraisers, Steve helped secure funding for a variety of initiatives which included student trips overseas, team building events, and multiple awards banquets. He is also an inducted member of the NBW Soccer Hall of Fame, where as a board member, he helped chair the Mike Dillett Memorial Fund. The scholarship fund assists senior athletes with tuition costs and is currently the longest running athletic scholarship at NBW. In addition to his service, Steve has gifted many projects to West Athletics. Some gifts include new fitness center flooring, batting cages, various student awards, athletic equipment, and the conference championship banners surrounding the fieldhouse. Although his last child graduated from NBW in 2013, Steve continues to maintain a relationship with the school through his continued support of the Athletic Department and partnership with the Mike Dillett Memorial Foundation.
Wesley Ladwig 2001-2005 Wes Ladwig was a two-sport athlete who upon graduation in 2005 garnered seven different varsity letters. From 2001-2004, Wes was a four year soccer player earning two captain designations in 2003 & 2004. Wes was also named to the Woodland All-Conference team in both his junior and senior year, and awarded Team MVP in 2004. Outside of the conference, Wes was nominated honorable mention All-State his during his senior year. In addition to soccer, Wes was a three year starter for NBW Basketball. As a three time captain and three time Woodland All-Conference Selection (2003-2005), Wes helped lead his teams to multiple winning seasons. During his senior year, the Vikings won the Woodland Conference Championship outright and WIAA Regional Title, posting the second best record in school history at 20-3. Individually, Wes was recognized as a 1 st Team All Waukesha County selection during that same season. Currently, Wes resides in New Berlin and gives his time as a youth and high school basketball coach for the Vikings. Tom Daluga 1972-2006 Tom was a teacher and coach at New Berlin West from 1972-2006. For nineteen of his thirtyfour years, he led the girl s tennis program at West. During this span, the Lady Vikings tennis program was a consistent winner among the conference. Coach Daluga led the girls to four conference championships during his tenure including 1979, 1980, 1985 and 1986. In addition to the conference victories the Lady Vikings saw success throughout various runs in the WIAA tournament qualifying nine different individuals & teams throughout his time as head coach. This included seven different Top 5 finishers at the WIAA State Tournament in their respective division. While leading the girl s tennis program was his primary coaching role, Tom also influenced a variety of students as an assistant coach for other athletic programs during his time. For five years Coach Daluga helped assist the boy s tennis program and also spent fifteen years on the pool deck as an assistant for the boys swim team. Tom retired from his math teaching role and coaching positions at New Berlin West in 2006. Today, he continues teaching hunter safety to youth students while also certifying safety instructors hoping to teach the course themselves.
