Higher Education Department has issued notification of his appointment after the final approval of Chief Minister, Mian Shahbaz Sharif and Governor Punjab, Rafiq Rajwana. As he arrived at the Lahore campus to take charge, Directors, Principals of different campuses and divisions, officers of Administration Department and staff cordially welcomed him and appreciated his appointment as an enlightened decision by the authorities in the best interest of the University and the education. Keeping in view Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam s educational achievements, he is a seasoned and eminent educationist of Pakistan, who is well equipped with research aptitude and his skills as an educationist are above board. The worthy Vice Chancellor obtained his Doctorate degree from Nara Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam Institute of Science and Technology, Japan. He also won distinction in his field of study that bears the mark of his devotion to studies and education. Mathematics, Information Technology, Economics and other related areas are the fields of his expertise and a number of organizations, working in the areas of Education and Management, sought his expert consultation for improvement, betterment and enhancement of education and society as a whole. EDITORIAL NEW VICE CHANCELLOR UNIVERSITY OF EDUCATION Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam Hakeem ul ummat Dr. Muhammad Iqbal quotes "Teachers are the protectors of the nation, because they are responsible for mentoring future generations enabling them to serve the country" Teachers, indeed, are the true builders of the nation but Pakistan is still facing deficiency to prove the actual power of teacher. Without educators figure, perhaps a large nation such as Pakistan will not be able to enjoy their sons and daughters hard-earned efforts for the country that has encouraged the nation's developments. Having teachers as a second big force in motherland, our literacy rate is still under expectations and consequently flourishing national development and truly prosperous society is far away. With the passage of time, the government realized this weakness and founded the University of Education, Lahore in 2002. The University of Education is honored as the single varsity in Pakistan, which was established for teacher education and training. Today, the University of Education consists of 10 campuses and 3 Divisions across the Punjab, where more than 18 thousand students are studying in different 30 disciplines of BS, Masters, MPhil and PhD programs. The varsity has produced hundreds of thousands of skilled teachers over its life and this mission is going on with full dedication.

To promote research culture among TEACHERS AND STUDENTS VICE CHANCELLOR DECLARED HIS TOP PRIORITY Vice Chancellor University of Education, Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam has said that Universities are the best research platform and their basic mandate is to disseminate and spread knowledge. To promote research culture among varsity teachers and students is my top priority because gates of progress and development can only be made open through research oriented approach. He expressed these views in a meeting of all Principals and Directors of varsity Campuses and Divisions held in syndicate Room, Township Campus which was chaired under his supervision. All Directors and Principals welcomed the new Vice Chancellor of University with distinguished career in the field of academics, research and management, while Vice Chancellor also greeted all the participants. During the meeting, each Principal and Director gave an introductory presentation about their respective Campus and Division and briefed the Vice Chancellor about staff position, number of students, study disciplines and running developmental works and schemes. Meeting also discussed the issues being faced by Principals and Directors and aimed at solveing these issues for smooth working of administrative as well as teaching matters. Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam said that we should take all the necessary measures for uplifting varsity s name as a first ever prominent teachers training institution among national and international universities. VC UoG Congratulates Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam for being appointed as new VC of Education University Vice Chancellor, Gujrat University, Prof. Dr. Zia ul Qayyum met Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam, Vice Chancellor University of Education, Lahore. He congratulated Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam on his appointment as Vice Chancellor of the prestigious university of the country and presented a bouquet in his honor. He hoped that Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam, an eminent educationist and scholar, will continue the remarkable traditions of UoE, Lahore and will promote research culture among varsity teachers and students inorder to fulfill the dream of quality 02 education. Both VC s discussed the affairs of mutual interests and showed their warm welcome for further betterment of two universities in future. Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam also talked about his vision for uplift of University and thanked him for showing good wishes. A dinner was arranged in the honor of Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam to welcome him on his appointment as the fifth Vice Chancellor of University of Education, Lahore at Punjab University Executive Club. Chairman Punjab Higher Education Commission In honor of Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam, Dr. Nizam-ud-Din, Ex-Acting VC UoE New Vice Chancellor of University of Education Dr. Amin-ud-Din, Controller Examinations Dr. Ashiq Hussain Dogar, Treasurer Dr. Mian M. Arif, all Principals and Directors of varsity Campuses and Divisions located all over the Punjab and officers of Administration Department were present on the occasin. Prior to Vice Chancellor s presidential address, Chairman Punjab HEC Dr. Nizam-ud-Din and Principals and Directors of different varsity Campuses and Divisions formally delivered welcome notes. In their welcome words, they assured their cooperation to bring University at par with institutes of higher learning of Pakistan. In his address, Vice Chancellor UoE Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam outlined his vision for the University and sought the dedicated participation of the faculty and administration to achieve the set forth goals through high quality educational graduates and research endeavors of the University. He said that he was happy to attend the welcome dinner hosted by Principals, Directors and other officers of Administration Department that it was a good tradition to collaborate in all the activities of varsity as they could make the mountains move with unity and mutual understanding. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam said that if the officers and faculty continue working together with dedication, harmony and unity, Education University will soon make its place on number first in both national and international ranking of varsities. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam on the occasion lauded the services of Chairman Punjab HEC especially for the promotion of quality education and research culture across the province. He committed that participative decision approach will be followed in all strategic level decisions of University. We can bring a lot of positive changes not only in the structure of University but also in academic spheres being offered at varsity, he added. On the occasion, the participants presented bouquets to honorable Vice Chancellor and declared his appointment as a wise decision of Punjab Govt. for further development and betterment of University. Welcome Dinner Chairman Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Islamabad Dr. Ikram Ali Malik congratulated Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam for his appointment as the 5th Vice Chancellor of University of Education, Lahore. He hoped that Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam, an eminent educationist and scholar, will promote research culture among teachers and students and will prove a milestone in the field of education. Chairman Pakistan Science Foundation Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ashraf also met Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam at his office and congratulated his appointment as Vice Chancellor of the alma mater. He stated that Education University would be made one of the best Universities in the world under the chair of wise and literate Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam. ESTABLISHMENT OF ACADEMY OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT UE AND PUNJAB HIGHER EDUCATION COMMISSION SIGNED MOU University of Education and Punjab Higher Education Commission signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for establishment of Academy of Professional Development at Vice Chancellor office, Township Campus. The core purposes and prominent aspects of this agreement are to provide and enhance quality educa- tion and research culture in University and to provide mutual assistance and cooperation among both departments as well. Ex-Vice Chancellor University of Education, Dr. Faiz-ul-Hasan and Chairman Punjab Higher Education Commission Dr. Nizam-ud-Din signed the agreement paper. Chairman Punjab HEC Dr. Nizam-ud-Din said that for the promotion of quality education and research culture, revolutionary steps are needed and the role of UoE is admirable in this regard. He lauded the efforts of UE Ex-Vice Chancellor Dr. Faiz-ul-Hasan and his team of taking education friendly steps in varsity and stressed to continue such type of activities in future. Dr. Nizam-ud-Din said that for the promotion Work shop on C u r r i c u l u m D e v e l o p m e n t, A s s e s s m e n t a n d E va l u at i o n The Department of Education, Bank Road Campus, University Of Education Lahore, organized a three days workshop from 09-11th September 2015. Twenty regular faculty members from different departments of the campus participated in the workshop. Ms. Saima Bibi (Lecturer in Education) was the resource person. The substantial objectives of the workshop were to make the partici- pants aware of their active role in curriculum development as well as implementation, to enhance their teaching strategies for the development of higher order thinking among student. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Aslam, honourable members of syndicate Mian Muhammad Munir, Dr. Khaleeq- -ul-rehman, Sheikh Imtiyaz and a number of renowned educationists and other personalities were present at occasion. Farewell ceremony started with the recitation of Holy Quran whereas Principal, Bank Road Campus, Samina Naheed performed as stage secretary. and betterment of varsity in their speeches and declared his tenure, a golden period of University. Addressing the ceremony, Dr. Faiz-ul-Hasan thanked the speakers and participants best wishes and said that everything done by him for the development of University is the result of team work. Every teacher and employee was committed with his or her work and proved a milestone in the success of varsity. Although sometimes a tense environment was also there but the mission of varsity s betterment was our highest priority. Now he is feeling proud to say that UoE has a unique name in top ranking of national and international Universities that is real asset for all of us. Ex-Vice Chancellor said that he can never forget his tenure of VC ship in the University of Education being a golden and ever memorable period of his life. Afterwards participants presented a rich tribute to Ex-Vice Chancellor Dr. Faiz ul Hasan and said good bye in the echo of loud applause. UE Participation in Annual Meeting of PEEF Assistant Director Finance University of Education, Anjum Sharif participated in the 6th annual meeting of Punjab Education Endowment Fund being focal person of PEEF. The meeting held at PEEF main office regarding finalizing the policy of Master Level Scholarship 2015-16. According to PEEF, Master Level Scholarship policy 2015-16, the nominee students must have Punjab Domicile, secured at least 60% marks or a minimum CGPA 2.5 in BA/B.SC/B.Com/BS/BBA etc. They should have secured admission as a full time student in the current academic year (2015-16) in one of the partner University/ Degree Awarding Institution. They should declared monthly income of parents (from all sources) is equal to or less than Rs. 30,000/- (children of Govt. employees in BPS 1-4 are exempted from condition of income, if salary is only source of income). Not availing any other educational scholarship during the current academic year. Besides fulfilling PEEF eligibility criteria, the prospective student must qualify the merit and need criteria of the respective University / Degree Awarding Institution. TRANSCRIPT DISTRIBUTION CEREMONY AT UE ATTOCK CAMPUS Transcript Distribution Ceremony to MA Education (2013-15), B.Ed (2014-15), M.Ed (2014-15) was held at Attock Campus. After the recitation of Holy Quran, and naat, the transcripts were delivered to all the students by Principal Dr. Muhammad Abid Zia. On this occasion, Principal Dr. Muhammad Abid Zia addressed the students that bright future of any nation depends upon its teachers because they have to prepare young generation for future challenges faced by any country. He advised them to realize your responsibilities for the betterment of our beloved Country. Principal also wished the graduated students best of luck for their future. Appointment of New Registrar Dr. Manzoom Akhtar Vice Chancellor University of Education Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam has appointed Dr. Manzoom Akhtar as Acting Registrar of varsity. It is pertinent to mention here that Dr. Manzoom Akhtar has a vast experience of administrative, management and other university related affairs and has served in many prestigious institutions. In the light of the instructions issued by the Govt. of the Punjab and worthy Vice Chancellor, University of Education Prof. Dr. Rauf i-azam, DG Khan Campus conducted Dengue Day. A seminar regarding anti Dengue was held in Campus. Principal Dr. Muhammad Amin-ud-Din addressed on the anti-dengue measures. A walk in this regard was also arranged on this Day and a number of students and faculty members participated in the said walk. Leaflets were distributed to the students as well as to the public. The Pena flex regarding anti dengue were displayed in different places of Campus. Moreover, a Dengue Walk headed by Principal Township Campus, Dr. Ismat Ullah Cheema held in Campus to spread awareness about dengue and its prevention and cure. DEFENCE DAY AT UE MODEL SCHOOL FAISALABAD CAMPUS Defense Day was celebrated in UE Model School Faisalabad Campus in memory of the sacrifices rendered by the Pakistani armed forces. On the occasion, children sung war songs and delivered speeches which were highly appreciated by the audience. The Principal UE Faisalabad Campus, Mrs. Tauqeer Yasmin Shaukat, teaching and non-teaching staff and large number of students were also present there. 06 UNIVERSITY OF EDUCATION LAHORE

Independence Day of motherland was observed at University of Education, in its all Campuses and Divisions with hoisting the national flag. The central ceremony was held at University main office at Township Campus Lahore, in which varsity officials and large number of faculty and students participated. Chief Guest, Principal UE Township Campus Dr. Ismat Ullah Cheema hoisted the flag to start the splendid ceremony. Addressing to the gathering, Dr. Ismat Ullah Cheema expressed his views on the importance and need of separate Muslim state in the shape of Pakistan. He paid a rich tribute to the country s founding father and other leaders of Pakistan movement and called them great legends of history. He stated that freedom was a great blessing which had been achieved with the sacrifices of the forefathers. Pakistan is a blessing of Allah and we have to acknowledge it with true spirit said the Principal. He urged the University staff and students to follow Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah s golden principles of unity, faith and discipline because these are key to success. All participants sang the national anthem and prayed for the integrity, solidarity and prosperity of Pakistan. Apart from the flag hoisting, the University had decorated its building with multi-color lights and flags. The Worthy Vice Chancellor s Visits After assuming the portfolio of Vice Chancellor University of Education Lahore, the worthy head of the University Prof. Dr. Rauf i- Azam paid his first visit to UE Attock campus on 8th Sep, 2015. He was warmly welcomed by the Principal, Dr. Muhammad Abid Zia who accompanied the mindful Vice Chancellor to the construction site where new academic block is being constructed. Vice Chancellor issued instructions to the sub engineer regarding the construction of block to make it more congenial to educational activities. He also visited the computer lab and library and keenly observed the usefulness and utility of books and computers for the betterment of students and faculty members. Despite the tight schedule, the education friendly Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam enjoyed a detailed session of discussion with the faculty members and students to become aware of what needs to be done more for the proper functioning and diffusion of teaching and learning. The honorable Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rauf i-azam also visited Township Campus and shared his valuable thoughts and vision with the faculty members. It was a sound and robust discussion that contained the driving force for the faculty teachers to enhance their methods and skills pertaining to teaching and research process. Distinguish Performance The varsity s student distinguish performance in All Lahore Urdu Poetry declamation. University of Education, Lower Mall Campus, Department of Urdu s student Iftikhar Ashar secured first position in All Lahore Urdu Poetry declamation organized by Democratic Commission for Human Development. It is pertinent to mention here that Ashar s poetry work has also been published in this declamation book and calendar with his name. Moreover, Iftikhar Ashar has also participated in the program named Bazm-i-Tariq being telecast by Pakistan Television Lahore Centre and showed outshine performance in poetry declamation. Indigenous On Campus Training Workshop (Second Round) JOINTLY ORGANIZED BY UoE, DIRECTORATE OF RESEARCH AND HIGHER EDUCATION COMMISSION AT TOWNSHIP CAMPUS Vice Chancellor University of Education, Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam has said that a good officer not only deals with administrative affairs in the best manners but also proves himself a good person in social life. Training workshops, sessions and other positive activities in institutions are the best way to ensure good governance, enhance professional skills and work capacity especially for teachers and administrative officers who are attached with sacred teaching profession of prophets. He expressed these views on ending ceremony of the second round of three days Indigenous on Campus (IOT) training workshop of management cadre s officers jointly organized by UoE, Directorate of Research and Higher Education Commission (HEC) at Township Campus. The core purpose of training workshop was to enhance the work capacity and polish the professional skills of participants by providing special lectures on how to deal administrative and finical matters in the best way with special emphasis on the use of persuasive communication skills and information technology as well. A number of varsity officers and employees from different Campuses and departments participated. Focal person and Director Research, Dr. Shehzada Qaisar thanked the Vice Chancellor, participants on successful completion of training and declared the workshop a fruitful session for further improvement and development of University.
