Network simulators serve a variety of needs. Compared to e cost and time involved in setting up an entire test bed containing multiple networked computers, routers and data links, network simulators are relatively fast and inexpensive. They allow researchers/engineers to test scenarios at might be particularly difficult or expensive to emulate using real hardware for instance, simulating e effects of a sudden burst in traffic or a DoS attack on a network service. OBJECTIVE: The Faculty Development Program (FDP) aims at deliberation, sharing knowledge to e target audience about e significance of NS- and present current research opportunities in is field. The discussion shall foster inter-disciplinary collaborative research in networking using NS-. Also is program provides an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas on e topics of importance along wi ought provoking technical sessions. OVERVIEW: NS- is a very popular discrete event Network Simulator which is widely used in e research field of Wired, Wireless and Satellite Networks across bo academia and industry as a way of designing, testing and evaluating new and existing protocols and architectures, and has also proven a very useful tool for teaching purposes. NS- comes fully equipped of protocols, models, algorims and accessory tools. NS- is an open source network simulator which is freely available for academic research purpose. Therefore, in terms of scientific acceptance, number of tools/modules and cost, NS- would be a sort of ideal choice. NS- is an event driven network simulator developed at UC Berkeley at simulates variety of IP networks. It started as a variant of e REAL network simulator in 1989 and has since been supported by e Virtual Inter Network Testbed (VINT) project at is a DARPA-funded research project whose aim is to build a network simulator. NS- uses two languages C++ to implement protocols and Object Oriented Tcl (OTcl) for configuration and simulation e scripts. CONTENTS: Wi e above stated objectives, an extensive coverage will be provided in is faculty development program on e following aspects:? Simulation of Computer Networks Introduction to Network Simulator- Components and Tools of NS Wired Scenario Wired-cum-wireless Scenario Tcl/OTcl Programming PEDAGOGY: The sessions of is Faculty Development Program shall be conducted by e team of eminent academicians & industry experts possessing in-dep knowledge in e area of network simulator. It will consist of a series of lectures and hands-on practical sessions. WHO CAN ATTEND? Wireless Scenario Mobility Models Mobile Adhoc Networks Wireless Sensor Networks Installation in Windows XP Project Demonstration This Faculty Development Program is especially designed for faculty members of engineering colleges affiliated to Dr. A.P.J.A.K. Technical University, Lucknow. The faculty members of oer courses who are interested to enhance research skills can also join is Program.
