ATHLETIC NIGHT MONDAY, APRIL 23, 2018 Athletic Open House Canyon Gym 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm Meet Coaches, ask questions, sign-up for Summer Practice Session Physical Night Canyon Cafeteria 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Get physical completed for $25 donation We highly recommend you attend this event to return your paperwork, pay your donation, and complete your physical. It is an easy way to get everything done so your student is ready to go for the 2018 season. In order to be prepared for this evening, it is important to do the following BEFORE you attend the event: Go to www.athleticclearance.com to complete your 2018-2019 Athletic Clearance (The site is live on April 1 st ) o If your student plays multiple sports, a clearance must be done for each sport. o If this is your student s first time playing sports at Canyon, you must first create an account. o Make sure you are registered for football at www.canyonhighfootball.org Registration Tab On the night of the event, please bring with you the Physical Form, the OUSD Summer Camp Registration Form and your donation ($250 for summer/$550 for balance of the season). Complete your physical in the cafeteria, turn in the completed form to the administrators in the cafeteria and come to the gym to pay any team donations and turn in your summer registration and any paperwork received at the parent meeting. We will also have spirit wear for sale and it is a great opportunity to ask any questions you have and talk with our Coaches. If you wish to complete your physical at your doctor s office, you are free to do so. However, you must have your physician complete the physical form and return it to Daniela Medina in the Athletic Department BEFORE your participation in any athletic program. Without completion of the Athletic Clearance AND turning in your physical form, your student CANNOT participate. We highly recommend completing this process ASAP so that your student will be ready to go for the season. ** IMPORTANT REGARDING SPRING FOOTBALL PRACTICE the District requires that all students participating have a valid physical form on file. Physical forms are valid for 1 calendar year. IF your student completed their physical at last year s Athletic Open House or on their own sometime in April, your student will need to complete a new physical in order to participate in SPRING PRACTICE. Please see a Board Member if you need help determining when your physical will expire. For more information on Canyon s Summer Programs, go to www.canyonathletics.org for a link to the Summer-Athletic-Camps 2018 brochure.

TEAM POLICIES -1 Football Team Specific Policies General Expectations Football is an extracurricular sport and is a privilege that should be taken seriously. The following rules should be followed at all times. Consistently breaking the rules may result in dismissal from the team. Rules 1. BE EARLY 2. BE PREPARED 3. BE ACCOUNTABLE 4. RESPECT YOUR TEAM 5. COMPETE Academics All football players will have football as 6 th period PE and players will attend study hall during 6 th period days. Players that fail to maintain a 2.0 GPA will be ineligible to play football. The following grade periods determine eligibility: spring semester, summer school and fall 1 st quarter grades. Donations The following donations are in place to ensure we have all we need to run a safe, successful program. Families can elect to donate in installments if needed or all at once. Again, this is a recommended donation. If we fail to meet our budget, items will be eliminated from the program. Checks can be made payable to Canyon Football. Online payments can be made at www.canyonhighfootball.org under Registration Tab Recommended donation per player total: $800

TEAM POLICIES - 2 Lettering Any player who plays at least one play in a Varsity game can get their letter in football. Communication Email is the preferred means of communication throughout the season for parents. Calendar and website announcements are generally used for team information. It is required that all players have email and are on HUDL as this is the means by which Coach Ogas communicates with the team. If you don t want your player to have email, that is fine, but you will be responsible for communicating schedules, etc. with them. Playing Time WE WILL NOT DISCUSS PLAYING TIME WITH PARENTS. It needs to be understood that the football staff spends hours and hours trying to determine who the best players are. Our decision-making process places the needs of the team above those of the individual. Dismissal from the team Failure to attend workouts and/or practice on a regular basis may result in removal from the team. Parents will be contacted and notified of the dismissal. Failure to follow any of the team rules (above) consistently may also result in dismissal. Return of School Issued Equipment Any and all school issued equipment that is checked out with the equipment manager must be maintained and returned in the condition it was received or you will be billed for the missing/damaged equipment. Failure to reimburse the program for such charges will result in a fine to be resolved with Canyon High School directly and may impact the ability to check out other equipment or needed school items such as books.
