PROFILE OF DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS 1. Women s college, established in the year 1958 offered Economics as an honours subject in 1974-75 in response to growing public demand since Economics has been the first & foremost choice of the meritorious students of Arts faculty at the degree level. The subject offers immense job opportunities in the Banking, Insurance, Civil Service & Management of Corporate Sectors & as so there is an overwhelming response from the students to opt for economics as honours subject. Many learned teachers have enriched the department by rendering their valuable services.at present the department is headed by Sri Lakshimi Prasad Nayak, Reader with Ms.N.M.Jeana as a Guest Faculty. Curriculum Design and Development Syllabi are revised and updated annually through the approval of the Board of Studies. Syllabi have been designed on CBCS pattern from 2015-16. Proctorial meetings are held every year and records of their feed back are maintained. Parent teacher meetings are held for their valuable feedback in respect of the curriculum are obtained. 8. Facilities Provided To the Students Students are provided with seminar library facilities. Out of 375 Text Books supplied by the library to the seminar library, students are allowed every to borrow 02 number of books to be returned every 15 days. Remedial classes are held to help the below average and average students to raise their academic standard. Seminars are conducted on any topic within their courses of studies for better understanding. 9. Details Of Beyond Syllabus Scholarly Activities of the Department Students are encouraged to participate in the cultural and sports activities. Students are encouraged to participate in NSS and NCC. Students are motivated to join in YRC activities and donate blood voluntarily.

Students present their papers followed by discussions and deliberations so as to enable them to expand the horizon of their knowledge beyond the course curriculum. In the year 2015-16 and 2016-17, 07and 06 no of seminars were conducted. Besides that, Prof. Basaba Raja of Karnataka University delivered a lecture on the topic Farmer s suicide in india and Sri Bipin Bihari Nayak presented a paper on Sustainable development and corporate social responsibilities. 12. Achievements of The Students Students of Economics Honours have excelled well in their academic pursuits. As evident from the result for the last five years 85% of them have come out successful with 1 st class (Distinction) in the final degree examination. After completion of their graduation maximum number of students enroll themselves in P.G. Course in different Universities of Odisha. Very small number of them opt for M.B.A and B.Ed courses. 03 Number of students have been selected in the placement drive for TCS, Wipro, ICICI, very recently organized in Disha College, Berhampur.

Alumnae The Department has produced a number Alumnae who have excelled in various fields such as academics, banking and insurance sector. Ms.Sipra Sabat is at present working as a senior HR Manager in Wipro. Ms.Nayantara Mohapatra is senior analyst in TCS. Ms.S.Badamundi is a senior PO in Andhra Bank. Mrs.Madhusmita Mishra is now working as assistant professor in Govt.College of Odisha. Miss.Gayatri Satapathy is now working as assistant professor in Govt.College of Odisha.

18. Vision To organize international and national level seminars and workshops. To apply for introduction of PG courses from the academic year 2017-18 To open a research hub for encouraging research activities.
