TERM 1 WEEK 2 30th January, 2018 Dear Parents, Staff and Students Our first week of school for 2018 went well and everyone is already settled into the new routines of classrooms. Congratulations to all students, staff and parents for a great start to the year. Our Prep students have had a fantastic start and should be congratulated on their ability to ease so well into school life. Today we had a visit from the Southern Schools Support Team from Catholic Education Services. The Administration Team (Narelle Harney, Kath Kennedy, Chris Edwards and Helen Andrews) met with them to discuss St. Clare s Annual Improvement Plan and other important issues for our school. Opening School Mass This Friday February 2nd we will have a whole school mass to signify the beginning of the school year. We are blessed to have Fr Hilary with us to celebrate Eucharist. All parents and friends are welcome to join us in the Church for the 9:00am mass. There will be morning tea for parents following mass. The P & F will be organising this and we thank them in advance. Please join us for a cuppa before you go home!! Please also see the flyer about the Tupperware party. P & F Meeting Next Tuesday afternoon (Feb 6) we will have our AGM and first P&F meeting for the year. All parents are welcome to come along at 5:00pm in the Boardroom (Admin building). Collection of Old School Uniforms Do you have old St. Clare s Uniforms? Please send them into the office by mid Week 3. Our uniforms will be donated to a school in East Timor. Thank you to Jane Berge for coordinating this project so that children in East Timor may benefit from our donations. All uniforms will be collected for packaging next Friday February 9. Parent Information Evening Next Week, on Tuesday Feb 6 we will be hosting our Parent Information Evening to explain the vision for the school for 2018 and the opportunity for teachers to explain the specific plans for their class. Please come to the Arts Centre (hall) on Tuesday evening for a 6pm start. I look forward to seeing you at the Parent Information Evening. St Clare s Captains Our captains for 2018 were reintroduced to students last week at our brief welcome assembly. We look forward to their leadership this year. School Captains: Ellie Jenkins and Jackson Martin Woomera Captains: Stella Berge and Marcus Luxford Cooby Captains: Bonnie Dore and Travis Gee A Couple of Housekeeping Items: School Car Park Children must not walk through the car park area unless accompanied by an adult. Please also note that children need to be accompanied by an adult when crossing Mars Street. Stop, Drop, Go The area in front of the school is a designated Stop, Drop, Go area. This means that traffic are unable to park for any length of time in that area. Drivers are not to leave their vehicles when stopping in this area (unless helping children into seat belts). If your child is not already waiting at the front of the school please do not remain in the Stop, Drop, Go area as you may be asked to move on so as to allow the traffic to continue to flow. Welcome Community Hospitality We look forward to our opening Mass of Joy this Friday at 9am, where we will give thanks to God for our parish and school community and ask him to guide us in the year ahead to live as people of peace and joy. During this Mass, the staff of St Clare s will publicly commit to the service of God as teachers and school officers. Our 2018 student school leaders will commit to being outstanding role models of our school community. We hope you can join us to celebrate this important event, and enjoy a cuppa straight after the Mass with other parents and friends. Anti-Bullying Mass this weekend 3 rd and 4 th February we are asked to come together to pray for the demise of bullying. It has become apparent over many months that multimedia is contributing to bullying and it is apparent that it is one of the corner stones in a form of domestic violence ending in suicide. It is becoming endemic at all stages of life. We need to pray to stop bullying in the workplace, in schools, in social media, in the Church, in families and financial institutions. As a mark of respect for all people who have been subjected to bullying, we ask you to not only pray for these victims, but to wear blue to a Mass you attend this coming weekend. Stewardship Leaders 2018 Grace O Kane (President) Charlotte Gilbert (Vice President) Madeleine Fielder (Secretary) Will McGuinness (Treasurer) Owen Cunningham (Media Representative) Tyler Poiana (Social Representative) We congratulate these Year Six students who show leadership in this important area of the religious life of the school. The stewardship leaders will be presented with their badges in the coming weeks on assembly, as we are awaiting the arrival of the badges. May you know joy in your day, Kath Kennedy BOOK CLUB NEWS BookClub has been issued to students for term 1. Orders are due by Friday 9th Feb. Please place your orders via the Loop app, or return order forms with correct money to class teachers by this date. Thank you. Tammy Fr. Hilary s visits to our classes Yesterday, Fr. Hilary made visits to our Prep, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 classrooms. Students sang, prayed and shared their learning with Father and they enjoyed listening to his stories. This Thursday Father will visit the Year 4 to 6 classes where they will have an opportunity to share their learning with him. Altar Servers Thank you to everyone who has committed to serving at weekend Masses. We will now put together a roster and advise further details in the coming weeks. Please see me should you have any questions. St Clare s Parish News Children s liturgy is now taking place at Sunday Masses at St Clare s Church at 9am. All children are welcome. Year of Youth 2018 At the recent Liturgy and Pastoral Council meetings we had a representation of young adults. What these young adults had to say regarding their future in parish life was very encouraging. Over coming weeks the representatives will be calling on young adults in the 16 to 29 age group to join them in forming a team to social activities embracing the young adults of our parish. If, as a young adult, you are interested in joining this group please contact Veronica Cavallaro on 0437378313 or call in to see her at the Kitchen Shop. Remember Youth is Joy.
