The Lion s Roar School will not be in session the following days for Easter Break: Thursday, March 24th, Friday, March 25th, and Monday, March 28th. School resumes Tuesday, March 29th. A listing of church services can be found on Page 4 of this newsletter. Share your story How many families do you know that would benefit from you telling them why you and your family chose LSA? Do you talk about the benefits of LSA with friends and co-workers? Why do you make the decision each year to remain a part of the LSA family? Just a few questions that we ask each of you to think about as we are enrolling students for 2016-2017. Total enrollment numbers for next year compared to the same time last year is cause for celebration! At the beginning of March, we were at an increase of 75 total students for the school (K-12) compared to the numbers at this time last year. And we are not finished by a long shot. We have families each day calling to inquire about our school. Many of these are from referrals from current families. What an incredible testimony to our students, staff and parents. Our saying this year (thanks to our awesome football team and Coach Bundy) has been It s great to be an LSA Lion! What a great sentiment that we can continue to use each and every day with people that we come into contact with in the community. What s your story? Why do you say.it s great to be an LSA Lion? Are you willing to go out and tell others? 2 Corinthians 5:20 We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. LSA Dinner Auction Downtown Decatur HS Project The high school will be putting together a project for the LSA Dinner Auction with the theme Downtown Decatur. We are asking that each student bring in items, gift certificates, or a check, worth at least $5 so that we can put together a basket containing gift cards and items from the Downtown Decatur area. Students who bring in a donation will also be given a Free Dress Code Day on each day they bring in their donation, now through April 1st. If you would like to help put together the High School project or have any ideas for the project, please contact the office. March 2016 Looking Ahead Mon., March 14th -Drivers Ed. FOR YOUR HEALTH... From Mrs. Karsten, RN VISION AND HEARING SCREENING will be conducted on March 29th and 30th. VISION SCREENINGS will be done on students in these categories: ~Kindergarten ~2nd Grade ~8th Grade ~Special Education Students ~Students New to Illinois ~Teacher Referrals HEARING SCREENINGS will be done on all students in these categories: ~Kindergarten ~1st Grade ~2nd Grade ~3rd Grade ~Special Education Students ~Students New to Illinois ~Teacher Referrals Vision screening is not a substitute for a complete eye exam and vision examination by an eye doctor. Your child is not required to undergo the vision screening if an optometrist or ophthalmologist has completed and signed a report indicating that an eye examination has been administered within the previous 12 months. INow and Email Our Information Now system is up to date and a great resource to keep up on grades and attendance for your student. You can even sign up to receive alerts for failing grades and tardies. By now you should have received several emails through our Information Now system. It is imperative that parents check email regularly in order to stay informed of important information and dates that relate to the high school. Email is the preferred form of communication for most teachers. Teachers are also required to check their email daily in order to help with parent concerns. If you do not have email, please call the high school office to verify your preferred form of communication. Drivers Education Information The 2016 Spring Drivers Education session will begin this coming Monday, March 14 th, through the Decatur Public School District. Students who signed up and were accepted into the sessions through MacArthur or Eisenhower should have received information on the class by now. Both an email and letter were sent home to families. If you have any questions, please give us a call. If we can t answer your questions, we are happy to get you in touch with the Drivers Ed coordinators at each of the high schools. Updated Lunch Account Procedure In order to continue to try to improve our communication with our LSA families, we are implementing a new procedure for Red Card lunch accounts. From now on, we are going to send a daily email to families with student lunch accounts between $5.00 and -$15.00. These emails serve as a courtesy reminder that it s time to make a lunch account deposit. Once a student lunch account reaches -$20.00, the lunch card will be pulled, and an alternative lunch will be served. Our hope is that by using these email reminders, parents will be able to stay well informed and current on their student s lunch account. PTL Update A huge thanks to all those parents and students who volunteered February 12 at the Nelson s Chicken Dinner. It proved to be our largest fundraiser this year. A special thanks to those who braved the cold in the pick up lines in 10 degree weather. Thanks also to everyone who purchased tickets and supported the PTL. We couldn t do this without you. If you've always wanted to get involved in PTL, there are just three left in the year. We'd love to have your input and involvement! The last 3 meetings are March 18, April 29 and May 13. We meet at 8:45 am in the LSA Board Room. We'd love to start planning for next year! This has been a great year for PTL so far. See the last page of the newsletter for upcoming PTL volunteer opportunities.

Each week on Thursday at 1:00 PM, there will be students going to Hickory Point Christian Village. Here the students will participate in visiting with the residents, playing board and card games, and doing crafts during their time there. Just a reminder that every student needs 20 hours of community service which can be done at school, through community organizations, at the churches, or even at home. Students need to fill out a service hour form and turn it into the office each time they complete a service project.
