SCHOOL UNIFORM AND APPEARANCE POLICY Feb 2017 1. GENERAL: APPEARANCE OF PUPILS We urge parents to assist us to uphold the good name of our school by enforcing our dress code both at school and in public places. It is the duty of teachers to correct pupils who are incorrectly attired and it becomes very embarrassing for all concerned when a child has to be corrected in public. To avoid this please ensure that your child is dressed in the full, correct school or sports uniform, including footwear, at all times. It must also be clean and neatly worn. HAIRSTYLES: BOYS Hair must be kept neat, tidy, clean and brushed at all times. The principle behind these guidelines is that hairstyles should be appropriate and compliment the formal attire of school uniforms as judged by the management of the school and should not draw attention to oneself: Hair colour must be the original, natural colour. No contrasting highlights, peroxide, dyes or colour rinses are permitted. When fringes are combed forward, the fringe must be above the eyebrows (at least 1cm above) and if the fringe is combed over it may not touch the ears. Hairstyles should be neat and tapered and may not touch the collar or ears. Boys may wear corn rows. Afro hairstyles may not exceed 3cm in length. Natural braiding is acceptable. The following is not acceptable: Shaved patterns or steps. Beads may not be added to the end of braids/corn rows. Undercuts accentuating the contrast between thick and thin hair. Hairstyles with tails or Mullets at the back or on the crown of the head. Heads shaved shorter than a number 2. Uncombed hair Gel may only be used in styling the hair, no wet looks or spikes are permitted. Boys must be clean shaven daily. HAIRSTYLES: GIRLS Hair must be kept neat, tidy, clean and brushed at all times. The principle behind these guidelines is that hairstyles should be appropriate and compliment the formal attire of school uniforms as judged by the management of the school and should not draw attention to oneself: Hair colour must be the original, natural colour. No contrasting highlights, peroxide, dyes, colour rinses or coloured braids are permitted. When fringes are combed forward, the fringe must be above the eyebrows (at least 1cm above). All long hair touching the collar of their blouse must be tied back. Loose strands of hair and long fringes must be clipped back or held back by an Alice band. If a side pony is worn the girls must ensure that hair is clipped back properly. No more than 2 pony tails. Any hair accessory must comply with HPS colours eg: white, black, green, brown or tartan.

All girls have to attend swimming lessons during PE and for this it is compulsory that all wear swimming caps. Girls need to take cognisance of this when choosing an up style or having braided hairstyles. No beads or coloured decorations are permitted at the end of the braids. Afro hairstyles may not exceed 3cm in length. Natural braiding of the hair is permitted. Girls may wear corn rows. MAKE UP No make-up may be worn. This includes eyeliner, base and mascara. No eyelash extensions. No permanent make up. Only clear lip ice is permitted. No coloured or frosted lip ice/lip gloss is permitted. Nails must be trimmed to a reasonable length and cleaned. No coloured nail varnish, French manicures or nail art is to be worn. This applies to fingers and toes. Only learners that have applied, submitted relevant supporting documents and received the necessary permission from the School Governing Body, may deviate from these regulations for religious and cultural reasons only. JEWELLERY Girls may only wear silver or gold stud earrings to school. GENERAL SCHOOL UNIFORM Track suit pants may not be worn without track suit tops. Sandals may not be worn with track suit pants.
