MVHS departments with dual credit possibilities: Engineering & Technology High Tech Academy Business ACP courses Earn high school and college credit at the same time Dual Credit Courses are weighted and count toward the requirements for the academic honors diploma See Counseling Website or your counselor for more info. 9

AP courses are advanced, college-level courses that go beyond the scope of high school courses. All students who sign up for AP courses must take the AP test in the spring. There is a fee for some of AP subjects. AP courses are weighted, and they count toward the requirements of the Academic Honors diploma. You must turn in an AP contract. These contract are located on the counseling website and in the counseling center. 10

Courses are offered through Walker Career Center and Anderson Community Schools. Many programs offer dual credit. Programs: Cosmetology (due December 18 th ) Auto Tech Health Careers Dental Assisting Fire and Police Many more see your counselor for a full list of courses! Applications are located in the counseling center. 11

JAG is a national program to transition high school students into post-secondary education, work, or the military. Offered to Juniors and Seniors All year course, 1 credit per quarter See Mr. Cochran if you re interested in A203. 12

Fill out top boxes with name and parents signature. Top courses are the main required courses Place X in front of courses you want to take. The numbers in parentheses are the credit amount for that course. Must add up to at least 16 credits. Choose three alternates and mark those with an A in front of the course name. We do not grant teacher requests. Must include parent signature. Turn in with course application forms by December 22nd. If you fail to turn in form then counselors will choose missing classes for you. So turn them in. At the end of this presentation you will see how to enter your requests into Skyward. 13

Get involved. Get comfortable asking for help. Tell yourself: HOMEWORK IS IMPORTANT. Keep track of your grades in each class. Get enough sleep. Take responsibility for your own grades. 18

The Healthhigh school credit requirement is met for a student, if the student earns 3 FACS credits from the following list of courses: Choose three different courses from the following list: Adult Roles and Responsibilities or Preparing for College and Careers Nutrition & Wellness Child Development Interpersonal Relationships 28

Core 40 Diploma students must take 3 years of Math (6 credits) from 9 th to 12 th grade. If you have completed 6 math credits during 9 th 11 th grade then during your senior year you can take either another math or a quantitative reasoning course. (List is in Handbook) If you took Algebra I and Geometry in middle school you still need 6 credits of math from 9 th -12 th grade. Those grades from middle school will be on your transcript and calculated into your GPA. Academic Honor diploma students must take 4 years (8 credits) of math in 8 th thru 12 th grade. 3 years of math must be taken while in high school. The 4 th year can be another math or a quantitative reasoning course if you have your 8 math credits. (List is in Handbook) Math example-if you took Algebra 1 in 8 th grade then you need to take Geometry in 9 th, Algebra II in 10 th, and another math in 11 th grade. In 12 th grade you can take another math or a quantitative reasoning course. 29

Check college websites for specific requirements Example: Some colleges (Indiana University) require Pre-Cal/Trig If you didn t pass a math course, see your counselor to re-take before moving on to the next course in the sequence Check Counseling Website or handbook for approved Quantitative Reasoning course list. Band and Choir classes meet every day, all year Possible to earn academic honors diploma and take music courses all four years of high school. Advanced Concert Band Mr. Ellingerhas final say on which band you are in Color Guard (Fall & Winter) Choir Beginning (Premier) Men s Choir Meets during SRT Intermediate (Expressions) Must audition Girls only Advanced Choir (Center Stage) Must audition Music Theory 10 th 12 th 31

Required: PE I, PE II, Health & Wellness Students can replace one PE credit by turning in a PE waiver for Marching Band, Color Guard, Dance team or playing a sport. You must turn in the waiver within two weeks of your season being over. The waivers are located on the MVHS athletic website and must be signed by your coach/instructor and Mr. Deardorff. Required: 6 credits 2 credits in Biology I or Biology I Honors (by recommendation) 2 Credits must be earned by taking one of the following: Integrated Chemistry-Physics (ICP) Chemistry I Physics I 2 credits can be earned in any other science class: Chemistry I, Physics I, Earth & Space Science, Adv. Anatomy/Physiology, Adv. Genetics, Adv. Forensics, AP Physics 1, AP Physics 2, ACP Biology, & ACP Chemistry. *You must turn in a contract for the AP and ACP courses. *Check what the pre-requisites are for the advanced science classes. 33

You must turn in the application when taking the class. 35

If you plan to attend a 4 year college taking a world language is strongly recommended. Access course handbook on Counseling website. Fill out course requests on scheduling sheet with your parents and enter your course requests on Skyward through YOUR login. Get parent signature on your request sheet. Turn in schedule request form by December 22 nd to your first block teacher. 37

You will need to log into YOUR Skyward account. We suggest a parent is there helping you decide also. If you do not know your login and password please see or email Mrs. Roach in the counseling center. Have your request sheet with you so you can quickly have the course number and names handy. You have been given your instructions that will walk you through the process. PLEASE be patient if you would like to meet with your counselor about planning your schedule for next year. You can email them or put in a request in the counseling center. They will be able to see you after winter break as well. 38
