PRIOR LAKE HIGH SCHOOL PARENT NEWSLETTER MAY Prior Lake High School Parent Newsletter May 2018 A POSITIVE PLACE TO LEARN From the Principal by John Bezek I have thoroughly enjoyed my first year at PLHS getting to know the students, staff and the community. We have a great thing going at Prior Lake and I look forward to building on our rich tradition of success. This last month is going to be action packed with athletics, fine arts and graduation. I find it hard to believe this is the last newsletter of the year. Congratulations to the class of 2018, let s finish on a positive note. The last day for seniors is Tuesday, June 5 th with our Commencement ceremony on Friday, June 8th at 7:30 p.m. in Dan Patch Stadium. Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will have school on June 6th and June 7th. These will be early release days and final exams will be administered. Important Dates: May 4 th & 5 th May 21 st May 28 th June 5 th June 8 th PLHS Choirs Annual Celebrate Concerts HS Band Concert No School, Memorial Day PLHS Senior Awards night GRADUATION, Commencement at 7:30 p.m. Our Commencement ceremony is held outside in Dan Patch Stadium; the ceremony is open to all who want to share in this event. We will hold Commencement outside unless we have severe weather. In case of severe weather i.e.; lightening, thunder, hail etc., we will move Commencement into the high school gym. Due to the limited seating capacity of our gym, we would split the graduating class in two groups and hold two ceremonies. Each graduate will receive 4 tickets for their family, for the event, and no one will be admitted without a ticket. We have never had to move graduation indoors, however, we like to be prepared for any circumstance. Informational graduation letters have been mailed to all seniors with additional information about commencement. IN THIS ISSUE Did You Know? PRIOR LAKE HIGH SCHOOL PARENT NEWSLETTER MAY Page 6 National Business Honor Society On Thursday, April 19, National Business Honor Society students were treated to a tour of one of Minnesota s highly-regarded, long-time businesses, Red Wing Shoes. Mr. Tito Warren, Vice President of Global Sales & Distribution arranged the tour and then talked with students about international business and the opportunities and obstacles of doing business in other countries. This was an exciting opportunity for these top business students as they observed the production process first-hand. Students learned about the rich history of the business and how quality has been an important part of the production process since the business s beginning in 1905. Company innovation was observed through state-of-the-art technology now being used to produce molded waterproof boots and soles. The added bonus of hearing from a top executive with extensive knowledge and experience in international business was inspirational for many of the students. Tito is the father of senior Colton Warren.
