English Learner Reclassification to Fluent English Proficient Parent Presentation 2014-2015 1

English Learner Definition: a student whose primary language is other than English and the student is not yet proficient in English 2

The common goal for all English Learners is to be reclassified proficient in English. 3

Reclassifying Fluent English Proficient Requires 4 items: 1. California English Language Development Test (CELDT) 2. Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI) reading comprehension assessment OR California High School Exit Exam-English language arts (CAHSEE-ELA) 3. Grades 4. Parent input and notification 4

1. California English Language Development Test (CELDT) An English Learner (EL) takes the CELDT each year in August October until the English Learner reclassifies to Fluent English Proficient (R-FEP) 5

Yes or No Required 11/2014 For the 2013-14 school year, California Standards Test (CST) was not administered due to the adoption of Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and the transition to the new statewide computerized assessment. *ELs in Special Education receiving specialized academic instruction in the area of ELA CAHSEE - ELA: California High School Exit Exam - English Language Arts SRI (Scholastic Reading Inventory): The Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI) is a computer based reading comprehension assessment. The SRI is a tool used to screen students' ability to read and comprehend by grade-level. 15
