Gave response to lecture at the Southern Historical Association in November 1998. Black Baptists in Alabama: A Denominational and Social History (In Progress) Recent Honors: Received the Thomas Jefferson Award for outstanding historical scholarship from the Jefferson County Historical Association in February 1997. Received a special recognition for outstanding historical scholarship from the Birmingham Baptist Minister's Conference, January 1998. University Scholar at the University of Montevallo for the 1998-99 Academic Year. University Committees: Chair of the Black Heritage Committee, l993-96. This committee coordinates activities for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration and for Black Heritage Month. Served on three search committees: Political Science Professor, 1995, Social Work Professor, 1996, and Director of Institutional Research, Planning, and Assessment, 1996. Served on the Intercollegiate Athletics Committee, 1995-1997. Community Service: Historian of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Incorporated, 1994-1997.
