It is not only fun to play, but has many educational benefits, such as improved memory, numerical skills, problem solving, creativity, concentration and confidence. Learn tricks and traps to beat your Dad! Hear stories about famous chess players, solve chess puzzles and of course, have fun while playing plenty of chess. Trophies are presented to the top players at the end of every term. Students will have the opportunity to represent Wesley at inter-school tournaments. The program teacher, George, has been playing top level tournament chess for over 25 years and teaching chess for more than 10 years. Limelight Drama School Wednesday 3.30pm - 5.00pm 20 April - 22 June Music School Classroom N9 Limelight Drama is a performing arts program for ages 3-18 conducted by Olivia Connolly, an actor, writer and producer. She is a founding member of the award- winning theatre company Red Stitch. The program teaches acting terminology and skills, dance choreography and singing. Play building is used where students use their imaginations to create a narrative within a framework and to create characters. There is a performance at the end of every term for parents to attend. Limelight Drama develops confidence, creativity, empathy, social skills, aids in literacy and is a lot of fun! We build motorised Lego models using Lego bricks and Lego Technic in each class. Students are taught basic concepts of mathematics and science, while explaining the principles behind the working of the model. We build educational models like amusement park rides, vehicles, buildings and cranes. Students are provided with Lego kits, motor, batteries and visual instructions and we build new models each week. St Kilda Road: Junior School Gymnastics The Wesley Lions Gymnastics program caters for primary aged children from Prep upwards. Classes range from beginner/recreational to advanced/competitive in general gymnastics, men s and women s artistic gymnastics and cheerleading. All classes teach basic to complex movement patterns, with emphasis on spatial and body awareness allowing children to develop confidence in their ability to control their bodies while enhancing their coordination, strength and flexibility. Basketball Days: Tuesday, Friday & Saturday Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre Approximately $70.00 per term Wesley Junior Basketball is an additional competitive sporting option for current or enrolled Wesley students from Years 1-6. Teams of between 6 9 players are formed at each year level and can be single sex or mixed. Teams compete in the Playball Competition on Tuesdays (Years 4 6) or Fridays (Years 1 4). They also compete in the Port Phillip Basketball Association competition on Saturday afternoons. Wesley Junior Basketball relies on parent support for team managers and coaches. There are over 18 teams and 200 players so teams fill quickly. Additional Sessions Additional team basketball coaching sessions are also available for Junior School students before school to practise key skills, rules, strategies and sportsmanship. Sessions run once a week on a set day from 7.30am - 8.10am at a cost of $40 for Term 1 (8 weeks) and there s no need to change out of the school uniform. As this is run by an external provider, Extend, we encourage all children to be registered in the event that you are late to pick up your child.
