Academic Components Weighted Grade System (Average) Honors Courses Offered College Level Courses Offered Advanced Placement Courses International Baccalaureate Courses at LBHS
Weighted Grade System (Average) A weighted average is compiled at both WHHS and LBHS for every student. The purpose of using a Weighted Grade System (Average) is to determine Valedictorian and Salutatorian (Class Rank) as well as ensuring that the students taking rigorous courses are not penalized and will still have the opportunity to be eligible for Valedictorian, Salutatorian and other academic accolades. It is different at every High School but that does not affect college acceptance because a Weighted Average is solely used to determine class rank within a given school.

Long Beach High School- IB Overview Long Beach High School offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. IB is an internationally recognized curriculum that offers 11 th and 12 th grade students an opportunity to earn the IB Diploma or one or more IB Certificates. To earn the IB Diploma, students must complete and test in six IB subjects; write an extended essay of independent research guided by a faculty mentor; complete 150 hours of creativity, activity and service activities (CAS); and participate in a critical thinking course called Theory of Knowledge (TOK). Students who take one or more IB courses without completing the entire program may earn certificates by testing in selected IB courses.
