Philosophy Applicable to students admitted in 2014-15 Major Programme Requirement Students are required to complete a minimum of 72 units of courses as follows: 1. Faculty Package: 9 PHIL1110* and any two courses from ANTH1020, CHLL1900, CUMT1000, CURE1000, 1110, ENGE1000, FAAS1900, HIST1000, JASP1090, LING1000, MUSC1000, THEO1000, TRAN1000 2. Required Courses: 30 [PHIL1110*], 1310, 2020, 2030, 2040, 2050, 2060, 3000, 3800, 3820, 4800 3. Elective Courses: 33 All Philosophy courses other than PHIL1110 and the 30 units of required courses listed in (2) are elective courses. Students are required to take at least 6 units each from Areas 1, 2 and 3. Final year students are allowed to take a maximum of 6 units of courses from Area 5. Total: 72 * PHIL1110 counted as Faculty package units only. Explanatory Notes: 1. PHIL courses at 2000 and above level will be included in the calculation of Major GPA for honours classification. 2. Students should obtain Grade C- or above in each of the courses of PHIL1110 and 1310. Otherwise, they are required to repeat the course(s). The repeat of the course(s) will not, however, affect the normal sequence of students selection of courses. Students who cannot meet the Grade C- requirement in any one of the courses mentioned above after two attempts will be required to withdraw from the University. 3. Exemption of units may be granted to students given permission to take two minor programmes. The Department will consider each application on a case-by-case basis.

Elective Courses: 27 All Philosophy courses (including PHIL3000/3800/3820 not taken to fulfill requirement (2) above) on the course list other than the 27 units of required courses listed in (1) and (2) are elective courses. Students are required to take at least 3 units each from Areas 1, 2 and 3. Final year students are allowed to take a maximum of 6 units of courses from Area 5. Total: 54 * of PHIL1110 counted as Faculty package units only. Explanatory Notes: 1.
