Our hall was packed to capacity. In fact I think we used every available chair in the school! We had grandparents and great grandparents from overseas, interstate, local and distant parts of Melbourne. Many thanks to all who generously donated food for morning tea and also to our wonderful parent helpers who served our visitors. Our students certainly enjoyed a wonderful day with their grandparents and special friends. St Vincent de Paul A heartfelt thanks from the St Brigid s Chapter of St Vincent de Paul for the generous donations of grocery items. The St Vincent de Paul team work tirelessly to support those in our community and your generosity is very much appreciated. St Brigid s News & Events Congratulations to Thomas E, Riley S and Tahia R who all participated and ran 6km on the weekend at the Great Ocean Road Running Festival. What a fabulous effort. Well done. Max in Prep RH has been doing some great work. After reading Bee s in my Garden he made this Beautiful Bee. Great Work Max!!!! Victorian Premiers Reading Challenge The Victorian Premiers Reading Challenge is open and St Brigid s is excited to be participating. PREP s and 1/2 s The Prep s and 1/2 s are participating as a whole class so parents will not need to logon and add the books but if you would like your child s name to appear on the Honour Roll, the form sent home last week needs to be signed and sent back to school. 3/4 s and 5/6 s The 3/4 and 5/6 children are required to return the Premiers Reading Challenge form sent home last week. Once the form is received a booklet with log on details will be sent home. The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 7 September 2018. Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or experience 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books. All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and can choose to have their name included on the online Honour Roll. To read the Premier s letter to parents, view the booklists and for more information about the Victorian Premiers Reading Challenge, visit: www.education.vic.gov.au/prc

Sustainability News They re Calling On Us The Environment and Sustainability Team have been working on a project to help save the gorillas. That project is called They re Calling On Us ( Zoos Victoria designed the original project and it is called They re Calling On You but we are taking ownership of our own part of the project and changing the name). The project is about donating old mobile phones so that we can recycle coltan and save the gorillas homes. Coltan is a metal that is found in your mobile phones. Most of the world's coltan is mined in central Africa where the gorillas live. We will be having a casual clothes day on Tuesday 31st July (World Ranger s Day). for students who bring old mobile phones, mobile phone batteries, or mobile phone accessories or they can bring a gold coin for the Thin Green Line Foundation. This foundation helps train and equip the rangers who help protect the world s wildlife. So start collecting all your old mobile phones, phone batteries and accessories!
