North Carolina s Next Generation Assessments * North Carolina is on track to achieve full online administration of assessments by 2014-15. The following time line outlines the steps that will take place each year to make this happen: 2011 12: Stand alone field testing of new assessments (Math, Science, ELA) 2012 13: Summative assessments aligned to CCSS (for ELA and Mathematics) and NC Essential Standards (for Science) will be administered operationally 2014 15: Expected assessments operational from Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (shared between states) in ELA/Math 3 8 and one High School Assessment in ELA and Math (w/ Performance Tasks in 9 & 10) http://www.k12.wa.us/smarter/

Science Safety SBE Policy GCS-F-017, Science Laboratory Safety, requires development and implementation of a Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) by each Local Agency (LEA). Drawing Straws Activity Divide your table into two groups. Decide if your group is going to focus on grades 6-8 or 9-12. This activity will apply K-12. Send a representative from your group to get a set of cups with strips in them. The cups will be labeled Common Core Literacy Standards, Science & Engineering Practices, and NC Science Essential Standards Draw one strip from each cup and then
