Thanks to some local sponsors! Administrative Updates Back to Top Winter Showcase The Winter Showcase, scheduled for December 15, was postponed dand will be rescheduled in the new year. HSA Administration (High School only) High School Assessments (HSA tests) will be administered on January 9th. Please make sure you high school student is aware of this date and comes to school on-time and prepared.
1st Semester Exams (High School only) Final exams for 1st semester will be administered on January 18th-19th. These exams are for high school only. High School students will be released early these dates. Please make sure you high school student is aware of these dates and comes to school on-time and prepared. SAT Prep Class Principal Ghosh will be leading a SAT prep course for seniors starting in January. This prep course will be held before school from 7:30-8:20 and will be limited in space. To sign up, please contact Ms. Ghosh directly. Another class will be held later this spring for juniors. MATHS Mid-year Meeting & Parent-Teacher Conferences On Thursday, January 26th at 5pm MATHS will hold its Annual Mid-year Meeting in the auditorium. The band will showcase their new uniforms while playing a number or two at the start of the meeting. We will be discussing a number of important topics including: New District Grading Policy Parent input on budget MATHS new location for the coming school year Spirit Wear After the meeting, parents will be encouraged to visit with teachers for Parent-Teacher Conferences. MATHS is Moving! MATHS will be moving locations for the upcoming 2012-2013 school year and beyond. KIPP will be moving into the building starting July 1, 2012. BCPSS has potential options that will provide us with good space, athletic fields, and a somewhat renovated building. The school board will be approving one of these options in January or February. Once we have more information we will disclose details about the location and the move. Spirit Wear MATHS is now offering SPIRIT Wear in addition to the regular uniforms. These t-shirt, sweatshirt, and sweat pant options are all allowable any day of the week, in addition to the regular uniform. You can see the options below. Uniform Reminders Spirit Wear now accepted any school day. Students may not wear jackets- only official MATHS sweatshirts. Students may wear solid black or white thermal shirts under their polo shirt. Corduroy pants are not allowed. Admin will do uniform checks throughout the day. No open-toed shoes, sandals, slippers, or flips flops. Students are not to wear see-through clothing, torn jeans, or underclothing as an outer garment. Solid black or white socks may be worn, but no leggings. MATHS Open House Dates Student recruitment is already underway for next year. MATHS Open Houses are a chance for interested families to come check out MATHS. If you know someone interested in enrolling at MATHS pass along these Open House dates. These meetings allow administration and other staff to provide students with necessary information regarding dues, activities, and other student events. Monday- Seniors, Tuesday- Juniors, Wednesday- Sophomores, Thursday- Middle School and Friday- Freshmen. High School meetings will take place from 10:10AM-10:40AM. Middle School meetings will take place from 11:05AM-11:45AM. National Academic League The National Academic League (NAL) is a quiz bowl competition for students in grades 6th-8th. A team of 15-20 students, under the direction of a coach, answer questions that focus on 22 subjects including math, English, science, and social studies. Students will work with their coach to prepare for matches and will compete in matches as a team. This year, one of our AmeriCorps tutors serves as coach for our NAL team. Service Learning All students who graduate from a Maryland public school are required to have at least 75 service learning hours. Some examples of service learning include volunteering at a soup kitchen, volunteering at church, volunteering at a local non-profit like a kids camp or animal shelter etc. For more ideas speak with Ms. Haywood. She has a list of approved service learning agencies is available in Office 332-2 Panther Press The Panther Press is being assembled by journalism students and distributed bi-weekly. Students are focusing articles on school news, events, and athletics. Ms. Mitchell's advisory is coordinating the program as part of a service learning project. They distributed bags for this program beginning in October. This program will hopefully encourage others to go green in school and at home. Students will be recycling paper, cans, plastic, and glass. Recycle your attitude!
