MBA POSTGRADUATE STUDY AND RESEARCH

The tutors are very helpful and have a vast experience in their subjects - they impart this knowledge to each of their students Deo Dave Mangulabnan The Master of Business Administration (MBA) is an internationally-recognised business qualification, valued by managers and employers. Here at the Liverpool Business School we have been delivering MBAs and postgraduate management programmes to professionals for almost 30 years, which has laid strong foundations of trust and integrity in the region. The MBA brings together leaders and managers across the Liverpool City Region, and builds on these foundations, by being rooted in the local economy, supporting economic growth and social change and drawing upon the city s global outlook. Our focus is on how to develop managers and leaders, because of the difference good managers and leaders make in our organisations. In an increasingly volatile, unpredictable, complex and ambiguous world, how we lead and manage is changing. Such a context places a premium on leaders and managers being up to date and equipped to rise to this challenge. Which means that an MBA education is as important as ever. That is why we have designed our MBA as a management and leadership development programme, aimed at developing confident, competent forward-thinking leaders who can balance strategic thinking with excellent operational focus. This is a distinctive MBA which is intellectually-challenging, insightful and focused on improving practice in the workplace across all areas of management, leadership, and the functions of business. The whole experience has been fantastic for me and the people I have met along this journey will influence the rest of my career Tilly Simmons Fees: Study full-time over one year or part-time over two years Available as both January and September starts Entry Requirements: Applicants who meet the minimum level of industry experience should have a good second class honours degree or above. Applicants with significant experience but who may not be in possession of a first degree are encouraged to apply to study on this programme. International students will also need an IELTS score of 6.5 (minimum 6.0 in each component) or equivalent. Fees: Home full-time and part-time annual tuition fee:,200* International full-time annual tuition fee: 12,660* *2017/18 fees Programme Leader: Andrew Doyle - a.doyle@ljmu.ac.uk

What will you study? n Understanding the external landscape n Study operational excellence and how to contribute towards business success n Consider the latest theory and challenge current practice, including ethics You will learn by applying proven management and leadership development approaches. At the centre of our learning philosophy is the notion that we learn best from experience, so action learning plays a key role in the programme and we develop peer learning groups where you learn from fellow students. We take learning from the workplace seriously and on the part-time programme everybody brings their experience from the workplace with them and applies them through collaborative learning in-class. Full-time students will also call on previous experience, but we supplement this with key notes from business leaders, visits to businesses and live projects. Making sense of the external landscape. Organisations don t exist in a vacuum. Companies are intricately connected in a constantly changing environment. If you can analyse this landscape and the features that impact on your organisation s performance, then you can begin to make well-informed decisions and plans. Understanding operational excellence. Having clarity about the context within which the organisation exists naturally leads to a focus on what the business does and how well it does it. Good leadership and management is about understanding this environment and delivering value for customers. Essentially, that means understanding how to get the best out of the core operations in the organisation to fulfil customers needs while allowing the business to grow and develop. Research-informed practice. The MBA balances intellectual challenge with improving practice in the workplace. You will consider and critique different theories and ideas and their relative merits in an organisation. In doing so some ideas will confirm and support things you already think and are doing, building confidence in your practice. However, some ideas will challenge current practice and introduce fresh insight to the workplace. An MBA underpinned by ethical and values-based leadership. No MBA should be complete without recognising your own values and principles which underpin how you manage. Managers and leaders increasingly need to build their practice on principles and values, to ensure ethical practice in both a local and global context. A deep understanding of business. The MBA equips you as a manager to have a broad and rich understanding of business and how to manage effectively. So you will explore key topics such as understanding organisations, operations management, finance, information, projects, change management and strategy and markets. All themes will contribute to your understanding of how to maximise the way you manage and lead an organisation. The tutors treat you as a peer and engage you in whatever your professional interests are Adam Snape

Bringing these people together with our students will help us address new ideas, provide thought leadership and generate discussions of emerging ideas and trends. Networks and relationship building. Graduate Destinations MBA graduates will have an improved career trajectory after successful completion of their degree, and as a result are able to move more quickly and with confidence up the career ladder. Teaching and assessment The MBA is delivered flexibly to suit your requirements and your existing commitments. For example, the part-time route is delivered by block study in three day blocks each semester. Part-time students will be expected to complete the MBA in two years.
