About the SARC By February 1 of each year, every school in California is required by state law to publish a School Accountability Report Card (SARC). The SARC contains information about the condition and performance of each California public school. Under the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) all local educational agencies (LEAs) are required to prepare a Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP), which describes how they intend to meet annual school-specific goals for all pupils, with specific activities to address state and local priorities. Additionally, data reported in an LCAP is to be consistent with data reported in the SARC. For more information about SARC requirements, see the California Department of Education (CDE) SARC Web page at http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/ac/sa/. For more information about the LCFF or LCAP, see the CDE LCFF Web page at http://www.cde.ca.gov/fg/aa/lc/. For additional information about the school, parents/guardians and community members should contact the school principal or the district office. 2015-16 Student Enrollment by Grade Level Grade Level Number of Students Kindergarten 29 Grade 1 27 Grade 2 22 Grade 3 24 Grade 4 27 Grade 5 22 Grade 6 24 Grade 7 25 Grade 8 21 Total Enrollment 221 2015-16 Student Enrollment by Group Group Percent of Total Enrollment Black or African American 0.5 American Indian or Alaska Native 0.9 Asian 0 Filipino 0 Hispanic or Latino 6.8 Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander 0 White 77.4 Two or More Races 9 Socioeconomically Disadvantaged 52 English Learners 0.5 Students with Disabilities 9 Foster Youth 1.8 A. The CAAs have replaced the California Alternate Performance Assessment [CAPA] for ELA and mathematics, which were eliminated in 2015. Only eligible students may participate in the administration of the CAAs. CAA items are aligned with alternate achievement standards, which are linked with the Common Core State Standards [CCSS] for students with significant cognitive disabilities); and The percentage of students who have successfully completed courses that satisfy the requirements for entrance to the University of California and the California State University, or career technical education sequences or programs of study Subject 2015-16 CAASPP Results for All Students Percent of Students Meeting or Exceeding the State Standards (grades 3-8 and 11) School District State 14-15 15-16 14-15 15-16 14-15 15-16 ELA 61 66 50 58 44 48 Math 54 65 44 46 34 36 * Percentages are not calculated when the number of students tested is ten or less, either because the number of students in this category is too small for statistical accuracy or to protect student privacy. C. Engagement State Priority: Parental Involvement The SARC provides the following information relevant to the Parental Involvement State Priority (Priority 3): Efforts the school district makes to seek parent input in making decisions for the school district and each schoolsite. Opportunities for Parental Involvement (School Year 2016-17) Parent participation and support is expected and essential to our school community. Parents may participate by joining the Parent Organization as an officer, classroom representative, or general member, or by joining the Charter Council. They may work on or create committees. There are also volunteer opportunities in the kitchen, classrooms, garden, on fieldtrips and all fundraising events. State Priority: School Climate The SARC provides the following information relevant to the School Climate State Priority (Priority 6): Pupil suspension rates; Pupil expulsion rates; and Other local measures on the sense of safety. School Safety Plan The District Safety Committee has worked diligently to set the direction for the entire district. A district-wide safety plan exists for all disaster situations. Coastal Grove Charter School shares the Bloomfield campus with Fuente Nueva Charter School. The two schools work in tandem on safety issues including safety planning and drills. Staff members have an annual meeting to review the overall safety plan and their individual roles and duties in the plan. The Bloomfield School site has had a very low incidence of crime of any kind during school or after hours when the campus is open to the public. There have been no incidents of crime against students or staff and only a few incidences of vandalism. The school campus is secure during school hours and visitors must sign in and out at the office and wear a visitor badge. To ensure a safe learning environment, the staff consistently enforces the education code and classroom rules. Types of Services Funded The Arcata School District is a small elementary school district. There are a variety of services funded in the district. These services include one elementary school, one middle school, and four charter schools; Maintenance, Operations, and Transportation; Before and After School Program; School libraries; Special Education; Student Support; District Office (Business, Personnel and Payroll); and Food Services. All of these services are coordinated by a management team composed of the superintendent, principals and classified managers who support the educational programs in the district. DataQuest DataQuest is an online data tool located on the CDE DataQuest Web page at http://dq.cde.ca.gov/dataquest/ that contains additional information about this school and comparisons of the school to the district and the county. Specifically, DataQuest is a dynamic system that provides reports for accountability (e.g., test data, enrollment, high school graduates, dropouts, course enrollments, staffing, and data regarding English learners). Internet Access Internet access is available at public libraries and other locations that are publicly accessible (e.g., the California State Library). Access to the Internet at libraries and public locations is generally provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Other use restrictions may include the hours of operation, the length of time that a workstation may be used (depending on availability), the types of software programs available on a workstation, and the ability to print documents. 2016-17 School Accountability Report Card for Coastal Grove Charter School Page 9 of 9
