11 (a). Conduct of JNVST 2008 Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test Admission in a Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya takes place on the basis of a Selection Test designed and conducted by the CBSE. The test is called the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST). It is of non-verbal nature, class neutral and so designed to ensure that talented children from rural areas are able to compete without facing any disadvantage. Because of the inadequate communication facilities in rural areas, special care is taken to ensure that children from far flung areas get admission forms, free of cost, without any difficulty. Sufficient publicity is done through Doordarshan, All India Radio, local newspapers, pamphlets etc. Principals and teachers of Navodaya Vidyalayas visit the local schools of the distict. As a result, people of rural areas are aware of the Navodaya Vidyalaya Scheme. ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS To appear in the Selection Test, a candidate has to fulfill the following eligibility conditions: FOR ALL CANDIDATES (a) Only the candidates from the district where the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya has been opened are eligible to apply for admission. However, for the bifurcated districts at a later date, the old boundaries of the districts are considered for the purpose of eligibility for admission in JNVs, in case a new Vidyalaya has not started in the newly bifurcated district as yet. (b) A candidate appearing for the selection test must be studying in Class-V through out the academic session in a Government/Government-Aided or other recognized schools or schools under Schemes of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan or B certificate competency course of National Institute of Open Schooling in the same district where he/she is seeking admission. A school will be deemed recognized if it is declared so by the Government or by any other agency authorized on behalf of Government. The schools under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan are to be sponsored by Govt. or Govt. authorized agencies. Schools where students have obtained B certificate under National Institute of Open Schooling should have accreditation of NIOS. A candidate must successfully complete Class-V Admission in Class-VI will be subject to the condition. (c) A candidate seeking admission must be within the age group between 9 to 13 years. This is apply to candidates of all categories, including those who belo9ng to the Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs). In case of doubt, being overage of these candidates seeking admission may be referred to the medical board for confirmation of the age. The decision of the Medical Board will be final. (i) A candidate claiming admission from rural quota must have studied and passed Classes-II, IV and V from a Govt. /Govt. aided/recognized school in the preceding three years spending one full academic session each year in a school located in the rural area without any repetition of class gap and break in attendance. (ii) Candidates who will be passing Class-V from Schemes of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan or B Certificate competency course of National Institute of Open Schooling on or before 30 th September are also eligible for the admission test provided they are in the prescribed age group The forms of such candidates will be verified by DEO/DIOS. The rural status of a certificate to be issued by Tehsildar Distt. Migisrate of the District indicating that the child has been residing
in rural areas for the last three years. Students under the above scheme from urban and notified area are not eligible for obtaining seats in the rural quota. (iii) A candidate who has not been promoted and admitted to Class-V before 30 th September is not eligible to apply. (d) No candidate is eligible to the selection test for a second time, under any circumstances. FOR RURAL CANDIDATES (a) At least 75% of the seats in a district will be filled by candidates selected from rural areas and remaining seats will be filled up from the urban areas of the district. (b) A candidate seeking admission under the rural quota must have studied in Classes- II,IV &V completing the full academic session without repetition in class, gap and/ or break from the recognized school( s) located in rural areas. (c) Candidates studying under the schemes of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and National Institute of Open Schooling should produce the proof of residence in the rural areas for the last three years in a certificate issued by Distt. Magistrate/Tehsildar/Block Development Officer. FOR URBAN CANDIDATES A candidate who has studied in a school located in an urban area even for a single day of a session in any Class-III, IV & V will be considered as urban candidate. Urban areas are those which are so defined in 2001 Census or through a subsequent Government Notification. All other areas will be considered as rural. RESERVATION FOR SC/ST, GIRLS & DISABLED CHILDREN (a) There is a provision for reservation of seats for SC and ST candidates. (b) There is a provision for reservation of seats for girls. (c) There is a provision for reservation of 3% Seats for disabled children (i.e. Orthopaedically Handicapped, Hearing Impaired and Visually Handicapped). A. Blindness refers to a condition where person suffers from any of the following conditions namely: (I) (II) Total absence of sight; or Visual acuity not exceeding 6/60 or 20/200 (snellen) in the better eye with correcting lenses; or (III) Limitation of the field of vision subtending an angle of 20 degree of worse. B. Hearing impairment means loss of sixty decibels or more in the better ear in the conversational range of frequencies. C. Locomotor disability means disability of the bones joints or muscles leading to substantial restriction of the movement of the limbs or any form or cerebral palsy. D. Person with disability means a person suffering from not less than forty percent of any disability as certified by a medical authority. COMPOSITION OF THE TEST The medium of the Test (JNVST) is the medium through which the candidate studied and passed Class-V. EXAM. Admission to class IX through lateral entry 2008 CONDUCT OF JNVST FOR CLASS IX In order to optimally utilize the infrastructure and staff facilities available in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, it has been decided to fill up the vacant seats in Class-IX through an All India level Selection Test. During the year 2006-07 JNVST for Class IX was conducted on 04 June, 2006 in 451 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas. 1. ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS To appear in the Selection Test, a candidate has to fulfill the following eligibility condition : (I) Only those candidates who have studied in Class- VIII in one of the Govt./Govt. recognized schools of the district where the JNV is functioning can seek admission in Class-IX.
(II) (III) A candidate seeking admission must be between the age group 13-16 years on 1 st May of the year of admission for which the Selection Test is conducted. This applies to all categories of candidates including those who belong to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. Medium of Language for Examination is English/Hindi. 2. COMPOSITION OF TEST FOR CLASS-IX Admission Test consists of questions of Class-VIII standard in the following subjects. (c). Admission to class XI through lateral entry 2008 NVS has decided to admit students, against available vacancies, at the level of Class-XI, on the basis of marks secured by students in Class-X Board Exam. While giving admission to the students, following points will be kept in consideration: A. A student who has appeared in Board Examination in Class-X from CBSE, or from any State Board is not required to undergo any entrance test for his/her admission to Class-XI. B. The NVS may admit the students in Class-XI on the basis of the marks obtained by them in Class-X CBSE Board/any other State Board. The students will be admitted on merit basis against vacant seats. C. The selected students will be informed by the Principal of the concerned JNV by registered post. D. Candidates are required to enclosed photocopies (duly attested by the Head of the Institution last attended) in support of their qualification, caste etc. The Principal of the concerned JNV will verify this information furnished by the candidates from original certificates at the time for admission. E. The admission in Class-XI will be completed latest by 15 th July and the Principals, immediately thereafter, will submit the status report to the concerned Regional Office/Hqrs. F. The newly admitted students have to undergo medical check up by the Vidyalaya doctor. Students suffering from infectious disease/serious ailment shall not be admitted. G. Ten days orientation programme will be arranged for newly admitted students to bridge the learning gaps and to help them adapt to the new environment. ISSUE OF NOTIFICATION FOR ADMISSION IN CLASS XI The vacant seats-available in each JNV will be notified by 10 th June every year in local newspaper by the concerned JNV. The simple registration form for admission in Class XI developed by NVS Hqrs. will be provided to all Regional Offices for its multiplication. The admission in Class Xi will be completed by 30 th June every year. ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION IN CLASS-XI 1. The students registered for the admission in Class XI shall be within the age limit 14-18 years as on 1 st June. 2. The candidate must have passed Class X from a recognized school (affiliated to CBSE or any other Education Board) of the district where the JNV is located during the academic session for which admission is sought in a JNV. 3. For admission in Class XI, criteria of CBSE/other Education Board marks may by opted for admission. The merit list will be prepared accordingly and the admission will be given as per seats available in the JNVs.
4. The candidates must have reasonable competency in English and Hindi for Science and Mathematics and the subjects of Humanities/Commerce respectively. SCHEME OF STUDIES: Streams available in Jawahar NavodayaVidyalayas will be allotted to students as per the following criteria: A. Science with Mathematics 1. Aggregate marks in Class X 45% 2. Science: A minimum of 50% marks 3. Mathematics: A minimum of 45% marks 4. Science and Mathematics put together: A minimum of 100 marks B. Science without Mathematics 1. Aggregate in Class X: 45% 2. Science: A minimum of 50% C. Commerce, Humanities and Vocational Streams There is no restriction of marks in offering these streams. However if Mathematics has to be offered as a paper under these streams, then a minimum of 45% of marks in Mathematics is compulsory.
