Wildcat Nation, Here s the Lawrence North athletics weekly update for the week of December 18, 2017. Lawrence North Athletics Community Partner of the Week: Albi s Grill has been a loyal community partner of Lawrence North Athletics for years. Marion County Champions Bennett Vail, Swimming and Tyler Majors & Dheontae Unseld, Wrestling This week we are proud to recognize our Marion County champions from this past weekend. Bennett Vail, a sophomore, won the 200 freestyle in a personal best time of 1:48.38, the 9 th fastest time in school history. We also had two wrestlers win Marion County championships; Tyler Majors won at 285 lbs, and Dheontae Unseld won at 152 lbs.

Cheerleading: The cheer team is always ready to support our Cats! They were all in the holiday spirit against the LC Bears! Pictures by Alana Ampil.

Girls Basketball: The Wildcats (12-2, 2-1 MIC) had a great run in the Marion County tournament, beating Decatur Central 62-20, #3 Pike 59-51, and Roncalli 50-39 before falling to #2 North Central in the championship game, 60-56. The team also picked up a good MIC win over Warren Central, 39-35. The #4 4A Wildcats will travel to Roncalli on Wednesday to take on the Rebels and then will play Chicago Marshall in the Manual Showcase on Friday night at 7:30pm. Boys Basketball: The Wildcats (5-2, 0-1 MIC) beat Culver Academy 42-40, and Indianapolis Manual 64-51 before losing to the defending class A state champs, Indianapolis Tindley 69-60. The team rebounded from that loss with a resounding 86-44 thumping of Ft. Wayne Northrup on Saturday. The team is now preparing for a big test in the Manual Showcase, as Lawrence North is matched up against #1 3A Evansville Bosse on Saturday night at 6:30pm. Pictures by Jared Rigdon, LN Northstar.

Boys/Girls Swimming: The boys team (3-1) had a strong performance at the Marion County Championship, placing 2 nd. Bennett Vail led the team, winning the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:48.38, the 9 th fastest time in LN history! Placing in the finals were Vail, Tyler Birkla, Joe Grese, Jasper Suiter, Jack Dempsey, Jacob Penrose, Brayden Laycoax, Aiden Zmickly, and Evan Sass. The girls team (2-3) placed 7 th overall at the Marion County Championship. Brooke Atkins led the team, placing 2 nd in the 200 IM. Placing in the finals for the Cats were Atkins, Rebecca Fernandez, Kristen Mouser, Edin Hall, and Kelly Matsuoka.

Wrestling: The LN wrestlers (10-7) went 4-1 at Calumet, and then had a very good showing at the Marion County Championship, placing 4 th. The team had two Marion County champions; Tyler Majors at 285 lbs. and Dheontae Unseld at 152 lbs. Net up for the wrestlers is the Al Smith Mishawaka Invitational next week.
