The session 2016-2017 ended with a lot of things happening, good of course. Examination stress is always palpable but that kind of stress helps students to perform better. Best wishes, Principal National Safety Week Road Safety week was organized by NRL on the occasion of National Safety Week from 11 th to 17 th January 2017. The same was observed in DPS,Numaligarh by conducting Poster Making Competition for the students on 11 th January on the topics Road safety, Home safety and Industrial safety. The event was marked by staging a drama in the school arranged by NRL that emphasized the importance of obeying safety rules on the road. The students were sensitized about the same by Shri Bhaskar Phukan,D.T, NRL and Shri Gopal Sarma,DGM,HIS,NRL who graced the occasion.
Achievement: *It is a matter of immense pride that a budding poet of DPS,Numaligarh named Ishaan Phukan of class X published his first book of poetry titled Mirrors and Masquerades containing about 24 self-composed poems in the month of January 17. His book contains poems with rhyming verses which focus on highlighting some of the crucial aspects of our society which many of us tend to ignore. *Pritam Milan Laskar of class XII has a different perspective of looking at life. He looks at life through the lens of his camera. His passion for photography fetched him national and international recognition in the online platforms of photography. Four of his photographs were featured as best photos in Wonderful Photography, an online Indian Photography Group. One of his latest photographs was adjudged the best International Photograph by a Canadian company, Cyrus Marketing in 2016.Another company, Oak Report, discovered his photography on instagram and offered him their online magazine Travel Photography to showcase his photography. *Arunabh Kalita of Class IVB has received the coveted Achiever s Award for the highest Maths Score in Grade 3 in ASSET 2016. *Satyam Chakravorty of Class VIB received the coveted Achiever s Award for the highest English Score in Grade 5 in ASSET 2016. 0.1 Certificate Awarded Certificate is awarded by CBSE to the students of Class-XII getting the highest score at All India Level in each subject. Major DP Singh s Visit DPS Numaligarh was privileged to welcome India s first blade runner, Major Davendra Pal Singh on 21st January 17. Major DP Singh was in NRL Township to participate in the NRL Marthon 2017. Major DPS Singh, a retired army officer of the Indian Army, is a Kargil War veteran. Students from classes IX-XI attended an interactive session with him where he urged the students to believe in themselves as he reiterated, We are the boss of our own lives. It was a gratifying hour spent by the students with Major Singh who left an indelible imprint in everyone s mind and heart with his motivational speech that reflected his unusual approach towards life.
Farewell to Sri MR Baruah DPS Numaligarh bid adieu to its Pro Vice Chairman, Sri MR Baruah on 21 st January 2017. A formal farewell function was organised by the school wherein students presented a choir, an orchestra, speech and a poem recitation. Sri M.R. Baruah served as the Pro-Vice Chairman of DPS, Numaligarh for quite a few years under whose able guidance, the school progressed and reached its greater heights. DPS Numaligarh shall always be thankful for his significant contribution and invariable support.
National Science Day National Science Day was celebrated in the school premises on 26 th February 17. A special assembly was put up by the students wherein various scientific experiments were demonstrated which was instrumental in developing scientific process of thinking in students. To mark this day, the school had organized a three-day long science exhibition from 26 th -28 th February 17, where enthusiastic students from classes IV-VIII exhibited their models. The exhibition was graced by the newly joined Pro-Vice chairman of the school, Shri Nikunja Borthakur along with parents and guardians of the students, who lauded the students effort and talent. Republic day Republic Day was jointly celebrated by NRL, VKNRL, CISF and DPS Numaligarh in the NRL main field wherein honourable MD of NRL, Sri P. Padmanabhan, Chief Guest of the auspicious occasion, hoisted the flag and addressed the gathering with his thoughtful and inspirational speech.he reiterated that the essence of a Republic India lies in the hands of the citizens of the country who must contribute in their own level to achieve it. A cultural programme was put up by the students of DPS Numaligarh and Nupur Art and Music School, NRL followed by march past by the students of DPS and CISF and a dog show by the trained dogs of CISF. Few CISF personals were also felicitated for their bravery in resisting illegal entry in the refinery by some miscreants. The programme ended with a friendly football match played between DPS and NRL where DPS emerged as the winner. Packet lunch was distributed to the gathering.
Visit of Honourable MD to DPS,Numaligarh The teachers of DPS,Numaligarh had the privilege of interacting with the honourable MD of Numaligarh Refinery Limited,Sri P Padmanabhan, on 28 th January 17.Having been acquainted with the thoughts and ideas of this great personality left everyone enriched. All Assam Inter District Tennis Tournament The 25 th All Assam Inter District Tennis Tournament under the aegis of All Assam Tennis Association was hosted by Kaliyani Club,NRL from 9 th January 17 11 th January 17.Some students of DPS,Numaligarh brought laurels to the school with their achievement: Under 14 Boys comprising of Siddhant P.Datta, Baibhab Das were the champions representing the Golaghat A Team. Under 18 Boys comprising of Satyam Goswami, Shivam Goswami,Sundaram Goswami and Anshuman Phukan were the champions representing the Golaghat A Team. Under 18 Girls comprising of Baishali Borah,Adrita Saikia and Sanskriti Borah were the runners up representing the Golaghat A Team. PSPB Tournament
The PSPB tournament (Petroleum Sports Promotion Board) is a prestigious tournament for the Public Sector Undertaking companies such as ONGC, OIL, and NRL etc. This year Numaligarh Refinery Ltd was selected as the venue for the XXXVI PSPB tournament (6 th - 10 th Feb 17). The courts of Kaliyani Club and the DPS Numaligarh were used for the tournament. Several exciting matches took place in both the courts. The students were privileged to witness the amazing matches of the renowned professional players like Rohan Bhopanna, Yuki Bhambri and Vishnu Vardhan. NRL was privileged to host such a prestigious tournament wherein the students of DPS,Numaligarh got the opportunity to interact and learn playing strategies from these renowned players.
CTPS Workshop by British Council Research has shown that one way of helping our students towards deep learning is to use effective questions in all lessons and subjects. Effective questioning is the best technique to develop critical thinking in students. To foster critical thinking in children to face the challenges of the future, teachers also need to develop critical thinking. To equip the teachers with techniques of CTPS, a workshop on Critical Thinking and Problem Solving was organized by the British Council for educators of this century on 10th and 11th February, 2017 at Dynasty Hotel,Guwahati.Ms. Bitopi Phukan and Ms. Anindita Barua,teachers of the school attended the same. These teachers along with Mr. Ashutosh Debnath and Ms. Bandana Das who had attended a workshop on Capacity Building on Life Skills at Miles Bronson School,Guwahati, shared their learning and enriched the rest of the faculties with their presentation.
Workshop on CTPS at DPS,Numaligarh Core skills and Advanced module of Critical thinking and problem solving (CTPS) workshop was conducted by the British Council at Delhi Public School Numaligah from 31st March to 2nd April.Forty teachers from Junior as well as senior school were trained by the expert trainers Ms Chandeep Marwah and Ms Arti Jha.It was was a very enriching and educative session for three consecutive days that equipped the teachers with various tools to trigger critical thinking and deep learning in children.
Upper Kindergarten Graduation Ceremony Delhi Public School Numaligarh celebrated its Upper Kindergarten Graduation Ceremony on 18 th March 2017 with lot of exuberance and ardour. The ceremony commenced with the lighting of the auspicious lamp of knowledge by Anurekha Barkakoti, Principal DPS Numaligarh, followed by a Saraswati Vandana. Senior Mistress (Junior Wing) Mrs. Namita Bora, addressed the gathering and accorded a warm welcome to all the parents.the foot tapping numbers of the tiny tots dressed in colourful attires mesmerized everyone. The glittering programme was conducted by the graduates themselves. The programme included students walking down their memory lane and sharing their sweet experiences in Preschool. The students entertained their parents with thank you song, good bye song and dance. The students rendered a melodious Swachch Bharat song which enthralled the audience. The programme rose to a final crescendo with the students receiving their graduation certificates. All the students of UKG were encouraged by the Principal for completing their pre primary grade successfully.
