If anyone is available on either the 29th July or the 7th August to help with orders please call Toni Bottams on 0427246441 Athletic Sports Our Athletic Sports will be held on Wednesday 6th August. Students have started training for the events that they will participate in during their PE sessions. Rugby On Tuesday both our Boys and girls rugby teams braved the cold wintery weather down at the Aero ovals in the Sunraysia Interschool Finals. The boys were competing against Mildura, Ranfurly and St Pauls, whilst the girls were playing Mildura South and St Pauls. Both of our teams made the grand finals, being undefeated in the pool matches. In the boys grand final we played the strong Mildura Primary. Our boys got off to a great start scoring first and had the scores level at half time. Mildura primary came out after the break and used their larger bodies to score a few more times defeating us 20-8. The girls played Mildura South in the Final. Using a lot of run and evasion they were able to get through the defences of Mildura South to score a number of times to eventually win 12-4. The girls are now the Sunraysia Grade 5/6 Girls Tag Champions and have qualified to participate in the State finals in November. During the presentation ceremony they announced best players for the day in all age groups. We had Mckensie Wade named player of the day for the girls. We also had Tyson Giles named as player of the day for the boys. Students could present it either as a word document, power-point presentation or use an A3 poster page to present their work. Students then shared their work with their classmates. Students in 2J, 2G, 3D and 3C continued their investigating and exploration of how the transfer of energy works. They used dominoes this week to demonstrate this energy transfer. Students in 1T and 1M this week made paper helicopters to show how gravity and air pressure work on a falling object. Irymple South Primary School Newsletter - Issue 20, Week 10, Term 2, 2014 2

IDIOMS An IDIOM is a phrase that means something different from the meaning of the words written. Idioms are a type of figurative language. In 4/5C we have been looking at idioms and unpacking what they mean. We chose an idiom and drew what the actual words meant and what the idiom was saying. We really enjoyed investigating idioms and will use them in our writing to make it more interesting. 4/5C Irymple South Primary School Newsletter - Issue 20, Week 10, Term 2, 2014 3
