WELLDON PARK: NEWSLETTER SPRING 2 ISSUE 01 23rd February 2018 EMAIL: office@welldonparkprimary.harrow.sch.uk WELCOME BACK! Spring 1 was a very exciting and important half term for us as we saw our school move forward in so many ways! As we welcome everybody back for Spring 2 there is a lot to look forward to. Not only will the weather improve (hopefully) and the evenings get lighter, but we have so many in-school activities to enjoy; World Book Day, Science Week, many exciting trips and amazing learning experiences, our Community Spring Fair and much more happening. All of this happens in just the next 24 school days before the Easter break! Remember, we are searching for our new PARENT GOVERNOR! If you are interested please revisit the guidance material sent home earlier this week. Don t forget to follow us on Twitter @WelldoneWelldon to see the amazing pictures each day of life in school. ASSEMBLY THEMES THIS WEEK ARE: Chinese New Year & World Thinking Day Highlights from this week: Thank you to all the parents who joined us for Parents Evening this week it is great to have such strong support for our children! We came second in a Harrow Borough Netball Tournament! See the write up on the next page! We received a generous donation of 3000 from our friends at the Harrow School to revamp our school library! Amazing! We have had a great first week back with children continuing to make good progress! World Book Day! On Thursday 1st March, all Parents/Carers are invited to come into school at 8.50am 9.40am for our World Book Day celebrations! Governors will also be joining in the fun. A full plan is attached to the newsletter! But remember: Children should come to school dressed as their favourite characters! Teachers and Support Staff will also dress up! Children can bring in a toy or book to donate for the School Spring Fair on World Book Day!

Harrow School Donation 3000! Over the past few months the Harrow School have sent some of their Year 10 boys into read with our Year 6 children to support their learning. The children really loved having older children come into work with them over the past few months and were amazed to learn that their Reading Buddies had enjoyed coming in to work with us so much they decided to do some fundraising! The boys managed to raise an outstanding 3000 to improve our School library. As a school we have the aspiration of making our school library a place of real learning and somewhere the children can develop a love of books. At the moment, our library is in need of a bit of a revamp to ensure the children enjoy going there! The money raised by the Harrow boys will go towards an author visit, many new reading books, new library furniture and a complete overhaul of the library space! We look forward to sharing pictures of the finished product with our community and would like to thank the Harrow boys who did so well in raising the funds and we are sure they will come and visit. A great start to our World Book Day celebrations! Weekly Online Safety News (From Mr Bottle, ICT Leader) DB PRIMARY BE SMART STAY SAFE ONLINE! This week children received the user guide for our new school virtual learning environment DB Primary which will be up and running fully on Tuesday 27th February 2018. Children will be logging onto the Virtual Learning Environment in their ICT lessons this week, please log on with them at home and have a look. This is a safe way for children to use a social media style platform that is monitored and is closed to other children meaning no strangers can access it and it is a safe online space. As the graphic above depicts it is important to remember that a lot of popular websites and apps, such as Youtube and Whatsapp, have age restrictions for a REASON! This is because it cannot be guaranteed that it is safe to use these apps without an adult before the assigned age. PARENTS BE AWARE! E-Safety is a vital part of safeguarding our children in the modern age. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact a member of staff to discuss via the usual channels!

ATTENDANCE We expect all children to have at least 97% + attendance, ideally 100%. Please do not request time off in term time for holidays as it could lead to a 120 fine. There are 13 weeks of holiday a year so please avoid term time holiday! Current Attendance Statistics: Year 3 remain our Attendance Champions but Year 6 are catching up can they overtake Year 3 by next week? Remember in the last week of the half term we will be giving out our special 100% Club reward stickers! Can you be one of the first children to get one? MORE SPORTING TRIUMPHS AT WELLDON As you may now have established, Sports and PE are integral to our curriculum at Welldon. This week we have achieved success in yet another Sports Tournament, a netball tournament at Bentley Priory. Group Games Welldon Park 3 V Norbury 0 Welldon Park 3 V Cedars Manor 0 Welldon Park 4 V Whitchurch 0 Welldon Park 3 V Newton Farm 0 We then entered the finals as GROUP Winners, narrowly missing out on 1st place. Welldon Park 2 V Pinner Park 3 Welldon Park 6 V West Lodge 1 Well done to all the children who entered. Pictures are on twitter and the school website. The next sports competitions we will be entering are listed on the calendar at the end of the newsletter and we SPRING FAIR! Our Spring Fair (Friday 16th March) is fast approaching! As it gets nearer we would like to remind you of these key deadlines: Friday 2 nd March deadline for books and toys Friday 9 th March deadline for eggs and chocolate Thursday 15 th deadline for cakes Friday 16th March the fair happens!!!! The next meeting for volunteer helpers will be held in the Kingsley Hall on Thursday 8 th March to sort and price items! All parents welcome to help what will be a fantastic day for our school.

Associate Headteacher ht@welldonparkprimary.harrow.sch.uk PHASE ACHIEVEMENT ASSEMBLY As you will know by now, just before half term we introduced our new awards for pupils with outstanding achievements in different areas! We are delighted to announce the winners below who received their certificates just before half term. Well done to all the winners below and let s hope every child gets to win an award during their time at Welldon Park! PARKING RESTRICTIONS A reminder that there is no parking outside the Kingsley site until the building work ceases. We know this does cause some frustration and parking is limited but it will be worth the wait when our brilliant new sports hall and classrooms arrive. Please be mindful of children crossing the roads when parking near the school site and be safe! As always, if you have any concerns, meet your child s class teacher first speak to the office and they will arrange an appointment for you. If there is something more urgent or private, a senior member of staff will always be made available to see you. Thank you for your continued support.
