From the Principal Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! The first couple weeks of the year have gone well, thank you for the role you ve played in helping your child(ren) get ready for school. So that the remainder of the year continues positively, below are a few reminders and updates: Drop off/pick up 10-15 minutes before and after classes. 6-12 th grade siblings can come early/stay late (up to an hour) if siblings are enrolled in classes that start earlier or end later. Elementary students not supervised by parents cannot be dropped off early or picked up late. Call/email when your student(s) will miss school. Safety Drills: Participation is mandatory for anyone who is on campus during a drill or alarm. If you are onsite during an alarm, please follow directions of school staff. 6-12 th graders can have a single hour hole in their schedule, but the must be in the library, teen room or the alcove outside the office (or be supervised by their parent). Exceptions are for behavior/safety issues/concerns. Sign in & out every day. 9-12 th graders who want to leave campus during the day need the form signed by parent/guardian & returned to the office. Use Parent Access to review attendance, check grades, and access Power School (formerly Haiku). Parking lot safety: Remember that the campus has 3 schools and a daycare onsite, there are lots of little people (and big people) who access the lots throughout the day & some are hard to see. Drive slowly Be cautious & aware

Picture Retakes If you were absent on Prep Day, or need to try again, picture retakes will be Monday, October 23rd. If you are having retakes done, please be sure to bring your first set of pictures with you. Course Fees If your student is currently enrolled in any art, ceramics, science, social studies, and/or math classes, you may owe a course fee. Teachers use the money to purchase supplies needed to support your student in class. An email has been sent with a list of courses and fee amounts. Stop by the Emerson K-12 office to pay your course fee(s) by the end of September. We accept cash or check only. Thank you for your prompt payment. Immunizations If you have not turned in any updated immunizations, please do so as soon as possible. 6th graders should have had their TDap done before starting school. If this is the case, please provide the date of the immunizations. Lockers Lockers are available for families to use. If you don t have one and would like to use a locker, please stop by the Emerson K-12 office to have one assigned to your family. Bus Passes Bus passes are now available. The district is using ORCA cards again this year. If you are out-of-district (filed a variance) you are not eligible. Stop by the office if you need one. If you still have last year s card, please return it to the office.

2017-2018 Homeschool Days at Woodland Park Zoo! The world we live in is a wonderful place! But we can make it an even better one, if we work hand-in-hand or maybe hand-in-paw together! At Woodland Park Zoo this fall, you can discover ways we can all improve the world for both people and animals. Homeschool students and their families are invited to the zoo for a day of hands-on activities, staff-run discovery stations, animal programs and self-guided exploration of zoo grounds. Visit our on-grounds learning hub at the Beech Grove (near the South Entrance) to explore ways people around the world can and do live with wildlife. Come explore the zoo and build on your students natural curiosity about animals! Dates: Friday, October 13, 2017 Thursday, October 26, 2017 Friday, November 3, 2017 Friday, March 2, 2017 Wednesday, April 4, 2017 Time: The zoo is open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m and you are welcome to remain on grounds for as much of the day as you like. Please note when planning your day that activities offered for Homeschool Day will primarily occur in the morning and early afternoon. All activities are included with zoo admission. Advanced registration is required to receive the discounted school visit rate ($6.75/person for October, November and March; $9.50/person for April). Payment will be taken upon arrival to the zoo. To register, please visit: www.zoo.org/education/homeschool. Questions? Contact the Schools Registrar by email (schools@zoo.org) or call 206.548.2424 (option 2). We look forward to seeing you at Homeschool Day!
