Results Day advice for students Make sure you are around when you get your results Look on Track to see if your place has been confirmed Be prepared when you collect your results UCAS ID, personal statement, contact details for firm and insurance offers etc.
Results and confirmation scenarios
UCAS Extra Extra gives applicants an additional chance to gain an offer, subject to certain conditions Extra allows additional single choices, entered and considered one at a time Course vacancies for extra are listed on the UCAS website Applicants eligible for Extra: Used all 5 choices Received all decisions Holds no offers or declined all offers
Clearing Clearing is used by applicants who have not managed to secure a place at university or college for the current year It is the process where applicants are matched with vacancies Course vacancies in Clearing are published on www.ucas.com from mid- August until late-september Over 40,000 applicants are placed during Clearing each year
Electronic Clearing Applicant contacts HEI to discuss vacancies Applicant enters choice details on Track If unsuccessful applicant can start again HEI will make a decision
The adjustment period Each year some applicants pass their exams with better results than expected This may mean that some will have not only met the conditions of their firm choice, but will have exceeded them The Adjustment period provides an opportunity for them to reconsider where and what to study 1,200 applicants were placed successfully using Adjustment last year Available from 14 August until 31 August maximum of five calendar days to register and secure an alternative course
Strategies if Clearing is a possibility Find out what courses are still on offer Research entry requirements Be realistic about the grades you are likely to get Check out university websites for course content Make a list of possibilities so you can look out for them You will sound like you really want to do the course when you call up the university Avoid spur of the moment decisions
