TO: THE GRADUATING CLASS OF 2018, EFFINGHAM COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL FROM: SUBJECT: BILLY HUGHES, PRINCIPAL R.U. KEITH MARTIN, SENIOR CLASS ADVISOR GRADUATION AND CLASS NIGHT ACTIVITIES DATE: APRIL 26, 2018 GRADUATION PRACTICE Graduation practice will be on MONDAY, TUESDAY, AND WEDNESDAY, MAY 21 st, 22 nd, and 23 rd, respectively, an abbreviated SENIOR WEEK. Seniors are expected to be prompt and be in the gym at 8:25. All seniors will park in the Springfield Parking Lot. Please enter from the teacher parking lot side (concession area) entrance and be seated in the sophomore section of the gym, the section closest to the front office. If you ride the bus, report to the gym immediately upon arriving on campus. PLEASE DO NOT ENTER THE MAIN BUILDING FOR ANY REASON. Also, plan to meet on Thursday May 24 th as a Rain Day!!! (only if we cannot get outside on Wed.) Seniors will have dress-down days during Senior Week. Please make sure you are dressed appropriately following all dress down dress code policy outlined in the student handbook. Each senior is asked to bring two uniform shirts during Senior Week. Please make sure the clothing you bring is on hangers. Practice will be as long as necessary each day. Plan to stay until noon daily. Please be reminded, again, that seniors are not allowed in the main building under any circumstances before, during, or after practice. Report to the gym immediately upon arrival and depart the school grounds immediately after practice each day. If you need to enter the main building, a pass must be obtained from Mr. Hughes or Mr. Martin. On Wednesday Mr. Hughes and ECHS will serve lunch (Senior Picnic) to honor the graduating class. The picnic will be held in the concession stand area of the stadium. ATTENDANCE IT IS MANDATORY THAT ALL SENIORS ATTEND CLASS NIGHT ON TUESDAY NIGHT AND GRADUATION COMMENCEMENT ON FRIDAY NIGHT. Seniors must return a signed letter of intent attached with this information. Seniors must be present each day for practice. There are three days of practice for this abbreviated senior week, and time must be used wisely in order to insure perfection during class night and commencement, which are formal observances or ceremonies. Any unexcused absence will result in the senior not being allowed to participate in the activities. If you are going to be absent or late for any reason, Mr. Hughes must be contacted at (912) 754-6404 ext. 1226 or bhughes@effingham.k12.ga.us. CONDUCT Appropriate school conduct is expected for all practice activities. Any violation of school system policies will result in appropriate disciplinary action which may include not being able to march at graduation. Sobriety is expected at all times. REPORT CARDS Report cards for Seniors will be distributed on Monday or Tuesday of Graduation Week. ANY SENIOR NOT GRADUATING WILL BE NOTIFIED ACCORDINGLY AND FORFEIT PARTICIPATION IN ANY ACTIVITY RELATED TO GRADUATION. Seniors who are not eligible to graduate will be notified by the Counseling Staff, and information concerning Summer School will be made available.

HONOR GRADUATES Honor graduates must have a cumulative GPA of 89.45 or better for all high school years. All honor graduates will be announced at the beginning of practice on Monday or Tuesday. Honor graduates will be honored during Class Night when they will be given honor cords, which will be worn on Friday as well. Congratulations honor graduates!!! SCHOLAR ENDORSEMENT Students receiving the Scholar Endorsement medallion at our Class Night ceremony have challenged themselves by enrolling in four credits of honors, Advanced Placement, or dual enrollment coursework in each of the academic areas of math, science, and English along with three honors, advanced placement or dual enrollment credits in social studies. In addition these students will have completed two units in a foreign language, have never failed a class, and will have completed three units of electives in one of three ways: 1) Completed three academic electives to include one additional AP or dual enrollment course in addition to the other scholar endorsement requirements. 2) Completed three courses in one CTAE pathway 3) Completed 3 courses in a fine arts pathway band, chorus, or visual art These Scholar Endorsement recipients will have successfully completed the most rigorous curriculum that Effingham County High School has to offer. BACCALAUREATE SERVICE The Graduating Class of 2018 will have a celebration service at First Baptist Church of Springfield on May 20 th at 4:00 p.m. It is highly encouraged for the Senior Class and their families to attend this special service. An inspirational message will be provided to help you prepare for Senior Week Activities and life after high school. You will need to wear your gowns only. No graduation caps are needed. Please meet at the church at 3:45. CLASS NIGHT Class Night will be held at 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 22 nd in the ECHS gym. IT IS A REQUIREMENT THAT ALL SENIORS ATTEND THIS ACTIVITY. Most senior scholarships will be recognized at this time. Seniors who have received any type of honor, especially scholarships, should notify Ms. Mimi Hayes, the College and Career Counselor, to be certain NAMES AND SCHOLARSHIPS are correct and scheduled on the Class Night program. Seniors must be present at ECHS by 6:15 P.M. and park in the area closest to the stadium. Seniors will form two lines down the main concourse of the school. The lines will begin in the office / main concourse area. All students will march in as practiced. ATTIRE FOR CLASS NIGHT Seniors will wear appropriate dress under graduation gowns. No caps are necessary! Ladies should wear a dress under the gown and appropriate shoes. The dress should not exceed the length of the gown. Guys should wear a shirt and tie and dark slacks, with appropriate shoes. Finally, dark, navy blue gowns and white collars with a navy blue trim will be worn by all. Please do not forget to wear the white collar. There are no extras, so please do not inquire. GRADUATION Graduation will be on Friday, May 25 th, at 7:00 p.m., on Rebel Field. Seniors must arrive at ECHS no later than 6:00 p.m. Traffic will be heavy. Arrive earlier, if possible. We will also provide additional parking at the old ECMS (middle school). Buses will begin loading at 5:45 p.m.

Seniors will be assigned to classrooms in the 100 wing and 200 wing with teacher supervision. A list will be provided and posted outside each classroom, and seniors will report to the appropriate classroom and remain there until called for the procession. ATTIRE FOR GRADUATION Ladies, please wear dark-colored shoes or dressy sandals. Do not wear heels. Please wear a dress under the gown not to exceed the length of the gown. Please, do not wear slacks. Guys please wear dark-colored pants and a shirt and tie. Please wear dark shoes. No jeans or sneakers may be worn by any seniors. DO NOT DECORATE CAPS!!! PLEASE BE AWARE OF THE FORMALITY OF GRADUATION! REMINDERS Seniors, remind family and friends that they are not allowed in the area where the procession will be, nor will they be allowed on the field for pictures until after the ceremony. Graduates and faculty members only will be allowed on the field. Mr. Hughes, Dr. Shearouse, and Board of Education members will remain on the field following graduation for pictures if desired. If a graduate has a parent employed at ECHS, the immediate family will be provided preferential seating on the field. If a graduate has a parent employed with the board of education but not at ECHS, the senior will be given four tickets for preferential seating for immediate family. Seniors must inform Mr. Hughes about preferential seating. Mr. Hughes will issue passes. Only family members with passes issued by Mr. Hughes will be allowed onto Rebel Field for preferential seating. Security and faculty will check for authenticity of passes. There is also preferential seating for physically disabled persons for which passes must be obtained. Only one (1) guest is allowed per handicapped pass. These must be obtained by Wednesday, May 23 rd. FINALS / DEBTS All Senior grades must be completed by Friday, May 18 th. All debts must be paid and books returned by Friday, May 18 th. Failure to comply will result in a hold on the diploma. All Media Center books are due by Monday, May 14 th. Please inform parents of this information and have parents or guardians sign the letter of intent. Seniors also need to sign the letter of intent. All forms must be returned to Mr. Martin by Friday, May 18 th. Failure to return forms results in seniors remaining with Mr. Martin after graduation practice until a specified time. Any senior in questionable condition of sobriety for any graduation activity will be disciplined accordingly. That senior will not be allowed participation in any graduation activity and will be referred to the proper authorities. Herff Jones will be present for any last minutes issues on Wednesday, May 23, 2018.

April 26, 2018 Dear Parents, Guardians, and Members of the Graduating Class of 2018: Senior Week will be Monday through Wednesday, May 21 st 23 rd. Seniors will be allowed to leave campus early each day immediately following graduation practice. All seniors must be present each day for graduation practice and must attend class night and graduation activities. Any unexcused absence from practice will result in the senior not being allowed to participate in graduation activities. The only excused absences will be a death in the immediate family and personal illness with a doctor s note. Any violation of system policies will result in disciplinary action, and the senior will not be allowed to march with the graduating class. Any senior in questionable condition at Class Night or Graduation will be removed from the procession or activity, will not be allowed to participate, and will be referred to appropriate school and law enforcement authorities. Parents must sign below indicating their acknowledgement of the aforementioned policies and to grant the senior permission to leave campus each day. This also will indicate that parents, guardians, and seniors are aware of actions which will be taken if there are violations of school policies, including the uniform policy.
