Click the facebook icon to go to our school facebook page. Term 4, Week 4 Principal s News I ve had a few different full and part time jobs. I ve worked at a flour mill filling hessian bags with flour and throwing them onto a pallet. I ve worked as an Accounts Clerk in the Public Service. I used to pencil for a bookie at the local races. I worked for many years as a Bank Teller and I paid my way through teacher training by working as a barman at night. Each job was different some easy, some hard and they were all OK in their own way. Like most people, somewhere about the age of 21, I realized I needed to make some decisions about my life, and one thing was very clear. If I was going to spend a lot of time at work, I wanted to do something that mattered. Teaching was it for me. I wanted to see young people get opportunities, succeed in education, enjoy learning and grow into good people. I love this school because I work with so many like-minded people. The staff here are outstanding. I have never worked with more caring, dedicated and committed staff. I know all of these people. They are not motivated by money, prestige, power or praise if they were they d be working else- Student of the Week Week 4 27th October 2017 where. They get out of bed every day, simply to make a difference in the lives of our students - your children. They inspire me, each other, and our students each and every day. If there was ever a staff who deserve to be acknowledged on World Teachers Day it is the staff of St Patrick s. We are truly blessed. Parents and Friends Meeting On Wednesday night, our P & F invited students from Year 6 to share how they use technology within the classroom. The quality of their presentation was outstanding, and no one at the meeting was left in any doubt as to the value of devices as a means of enhancing learning opportunities. Jiorgie, Amber, Tahia and Alyvia showed not only how much they had learned, but the skills they had acquired in presenting to an audience. I was really proud, and very grateful to Mrs Robinson who supported them on the night. Our P & F also approved the purchase of additional teaching resources for Learning Support, and we are very pleased to be able to extend our offerings in this area. Congratulations Baiden Howard, Sam Aitkenhead, Ned Jenner, Lucy Hamilton, Jarryn Gower, Zander Evans, Nicholas Morrish, Oscar Schneider, Jack Wooldridge, Coen Philips & Mr Plumb! Yesterday, this team travelled to Maryborough to compete at the Wide Bay T20 Cricket Carnival. They won their 2 pool games before progressing to the final where they came up against a competitive and highly skilled team from Granville State School, Maryborough. It was a very close encounter with St Patrick s winning by only 9 runs. A great team effort and wonderfully supported by our super coach Mr Plumb. The St Patrick s T20 Cricket team now travels to Noosa next, 3 November to compete in the next round of this state wide competition. We wish them an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

Page 4 Curriculum News Brothers Club Cricket Booklists and Apps Lists Booklists and App lists will be sent home next week. Please note that our ipad requirements for 2018 have changed. ipads are an optional device for Prep to Year 2. Children in Year 3 6 must bring a 5 th Gen or newer ios compatible ipad with a minimum of 32Gb storage. Ideally children will have 64Gb storage or more to ensure longevity of the device. Extra storage means there is space for non-school related Apps and games that parents may allow children to download. School Apps and school work must take priority over games and other Apps. If storage space for school work becomes limited, children will be asked to delete these extra Apps. We have again worked with JB Hi-Fi to set up a school portal through which you can purchase an ipad. This has been personalised for our school and provides a way for you to purchase an ipad and case online with pick up from the local JB Hi-Fi store. We have set up this portal to offer only the ipads preferred for use at St Patrick s school. There is the option of an interest free payment plan and the opportunity to purchase an additional warranty. Please note that this is an entirely optional way for parents to purchase an ipad. Other companies in Bundaberg that sell ipads include Queensland Computers, Bundaberg Technology Solutions, Office Works, The Good Guys, Harvey Norman and Big W. We recommend you investigate the best solution to suit your family circumstances. A reminder that minimum specifications for BYOD ipads are available on our website: www.saintpatricks.qld.edu.au Equipment ipad model Bring Your Own Device ipad Specifications 2018 Minimum requirements While not recommended, an ipad mini 2, 3, or 4 is suitable for class use but not for Naplan online.
