The Lion's Pride Oviedo High School's Monthly Newsletter Volume 24 Issue 1 August 2018 Dear Parents, From the Principal s Desk Welcome to a new and exciting year at Oviedo High School! Oviedo has a long standing tradition of academic and extra curricular excellence. We have a staff of highly qualified educators who will enhance the learning opportunities for our students every day. In July our FSA scores were released and once again Oviedo High School students performed at the highest level. We are an A school for an incredible 17 th time! Our Advanced Placement scores also came to us in July. We are proud to announce that our students, with the assistance of our teachers, achieved at the highest level. College Board reports that 75% of our AP students scored a 3, 4, or 5 on their AP exams. This incredible 75% pass rate far exceeds the district, state and the global averages. We sincerely appreciate the outstanding efforts and dedication of our students and terrific teachers. To complement our successful academic programs, Oviedo High School has excellent athletic and fine arts programs available to your child as well. Please refer to this issue with all the important dates and reminders to help you plan your school year. We invite you to become active participants in all we do with our programs. We believe there is a strong correlation between academic success and extracurricular involvement with our students. Oviedo High School offers a wide range of activities from sports and clubs to community service. We encourage you to become a member of our booster clubs, PTSA, School Advisory Council, or Dividends. Skyward Family Access is a valuable tool providing access to real time grades and attendance. Please check it frequently and stay on top of your student s progress and remind them to study. The community of Oviedo should be proud of our school! The students, teachers, staff, parents, and community form a perfect union to make Oviedo High School number one. Beginning with the 2018-2019 school year, OHS will be using a new cloud-based software program called Hero. Hero gets students in class on time while changing negative attendance patterns. It motivates students to make good choices, more often, through positive behavior reinforcement. Accountability, responsibility, and a drive to do what s right - these are life skills that can be taught in school using tools that improve student behavior. Tools like Hero that can elevate student growth, and usher in a more positive climate, campus-wide. As we begin the implementation of this new software program, parents will begin receiving notifications if their child is tardy to class. Partner with us and support our efforts as we roll out this new system. Freeze Time Students are not to be dismissed from class for any reason the first 10 or last 10 minutes of class.
