Glossary of Terms CIP Course Meeting Times Arranged Day Evening Online Only Critical vs Non-Critical Fields Non-Critical Field Other Critical Field STEM First Generation Veteran (Classification of Instructional Program) A taxonomic coding scheme for secondary and postsecondary instructional programs. It is intended to facilitate the organization, collection, and reporting of program data using classifications that capture the majority of reportable data. The CIP is the accepted federal government statistical standard on instructional program classifications and is used in a variety of education information surveys and databases. Arranged courses can be a mixture of online and face-to-face meetings, and/or, may only meet a very limited amount of times throughout the semester. Day time courses begin between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Evening courses typically begin between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Courses can be completed online or remotely through interactive television. Education and employment in arenas that do not fall in STEM and Other Critical Fields are considered Non-Critical Fields. To a lesser degree than STEM Fields, Health care and other service/protective oriented courses are vital to a society. These are considered Other Critical Fields. STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and education. Education and employment in these fields are considered Critical Fields. A student coming from a home in which no parents or guardians have graduated from a university or college is considered First Generation. A person who has been sworn into any of the military services. Prepared by the Office of Institutional Research 7.p
