About Education Technology Cell (ETC) Educational Technology Cell was established in 2003. This cell was primarily conceived to produce high quality Video/Web/Multimedia based instructional material; syllabus based content development for the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) project. Over the period of time, its role has been expanded to absorb new paradigms of e-learning, training of faculty to develop their own e-content and to use e-contents developed by NPTEL, training of faculty from other institutes to facilitate streaming of video & web based lectures in their respective institutes, streaming of video lectures round the clock on demand, at IIT Roorkee, creation of question banks and quality control of e-content generation through feedback mechanism. The cell has state of-the-art digital video cameras, non linear editing systems, audio and video systems, teaching aids, substantial number of computers, servers and software's required to produce high quality Web based and Video based courses and 3D-animation. This cell was primarily conceived to produce high quality Video/Web/Multimedia based instructional material, syllabus based content development for the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) project and short courses/training programmes for faculty for development of video/web based courses. Over the period of time, its role has been expanded to absorb new paradigms of e-learning, training of faculty to develop their own e-content and to use e-contents developed by NPTEL, training of faculty from other institutes to facilitate streaming of video & web based lectures in their respective institutes, streaming of video lectures round the clock on demand, at IIT Roorkee, creation of question banks, quality control of e-content generation through feedback mechanism, conduct of research related to pedagogies in e-learning. Since 2016 we have completed 75 no. of courses till date. Now we have tentative 32 no. courses for upcoming semester in July 2018. BY: Educational Technology Cell 3

What is National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL)? National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) The National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL), proposed for the first time in 1999 by Professor M. S. Ananth, Director, IIT Madras and funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, has developed curriculum based course contents for more than 240 engineering courses in five disciplines at the undergraduate level. The programme has been executed jointly by all seven Indian Institutes of Technology (Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) and the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. More than 350 faculty members from the above have participated in the programme to develop content. It is coordinated by the IIT Madras. IIT Roorkee is one of the eight institutions involved in the MHRD funded project on National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL). The aim of the project is to improve the educational standard in all engineering institutions across the country. The project envisages design, development, delivery & evaluation of web-based courses and video courses. The first, second and third phase of the project is already over. The courses are already freely available at NPTEL website at IIT Madras. For more details NPTEL Phase- I/II/III For more details please visit to: http://nptel.ac.in/ After successfully completion 1st, 2 nd and 3 rd phase, Now move to 4 th phase in which open online course will be offered through the portal http://onlinecourses.nptel.ac.in along the line of MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses). The course will be for undergraduate/postgraduate students of technical university/college. Each course is followed by an in-person proctored exam conducted in select cities all over the country. While enrolment to the course and learning is free, the exam has a registration fee to cover the operational costs. Students who register and write the exam will receive a certificate from Centre for Continuing Education of the institute offering the online course. The duration of the course offered can be of 3 types: 10 Hours (4 Weeks), 20 Hours (8 Weeks) & 30 Hours (12 Weeks). The format of MOOCs syllabus template https://www.iitr.ac.in/centers/etc/news/blank-mooc_syllabus_template.doc. The course runs are being aligned to the semesters of the colleges and it is suggested to have 2 runs per year: Jan-May and July-November. Following schedule is suggested: 30-hours courses : Jan-April & July - October 20-hours courses : Jan-March & July -September 10-hours courses : Feb March & July - September BY: Educational Technology Cell 10
