Sri Sarada Niketan College of Science for Women, Karur The NSS units of Sri Sarada Niketan College of Science for Women, Karur cleaned the Govt. Primary Health Centre of Kodangipatti, the adopted village of the college as part of the Clean India Drive. 50 NSS Volunteers (female) under the guidance of the NSS Programme Officer cleaned the campus. BDU College, Srirangam Tk, Trichy Dt The NSS unit of Bharathidasan University Constituent College, Srirangam Tk, Trichy Dt cleaned the college campus on 11.10.2014 as part of the Swachch Bharath Abhiyan (Clean India Drive). Dr. S. Padmavathi, Principal of the College inaugurated the camp. Around 70 NSS Volunteers, both male & female, under the supervision of the NSS Programme Officer, Mr. P. Srinivasan cleaned the college campus and the bus stop nearby the college. Bharathidasan University 3

BDU Model College, Vedaranyam, Nagapattinam dt Bharathidasan University Model College, Vedaranyam, Nagapattinam dt cleaned the 1000 years old lake (Vedamirtha Aeri) at Vedaranyam with the help of NSS Volunteers. The Cleaning of lake was inaugurated by Mr. N.V. Kamaraj, M.L.A. of Vedaraniam in the presence of Mrs. Malarkodi Namasivayam, Chairman of Vedaraniam Municipality, Mr. S.S. Thennarasu, Chairman, Chamber of Commerce, Vedaraniyam and Dr. R. Rajasekaran, Principal of BDU Model College, Vedaranyam. Dr. T. Raja, NSS Programme Officer organised the programme. Around 100 Volunteers participated in the cleaning. 4. Govt. Arts College for Women, Pudukkottai The NSS units of Govt. Arts College for Women, Pudukkottai cleaned the College campus on 09.10.2014. Dr. S. Neelavathy, NSS Programme Officer of the college organised the cleaning programme. Dr. J. Govinda Doss, principal of the college supervised the cleaning activities. Global Hand Washing Day On 15 th October 2014, the NSS units of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College, Trichy Bharathidasan University 4

organised a demo on how to wash the hands for the NSS volunteers to mark the occasion of the Global Hand washing Day. Mr. V. Ganapathy, Coordinator, WISH, Bharathidasan University was the resource person. He insisted the NSS volunteers about the importance of the clean hands and how to use clean the hands. Around 50 NSS volunteers participated in the programme. ToT Programme on Youth Employability Skills The Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD) organised a 5 days Training of Trainers Programme on Youth Employability Skills for the NSS Volunteers from 27 th to 31 st October 2014 at RGNIYD, Sriperumbudur. Awareness Programme on Infection of Diseases and Cancer for Women The NSS units of Govt. Arts College for Women, Pudukkottai in association with the Rotary club of Pudukkottai organised an awareness programme about the Infection of diseases and cancer for women for the college students on 30.10.2014. Dr. Subash Gandhi, Chairman of the Infective diseases, Pudukkottai was the resource person and he Bharathidasan University 6

explained about the infections of diseases from one person to another. Mrs. Vinolia from Rani Hospital, Pudukkottai explained about the causes of cancer for women. Dr. S. Neelavathy, NSS Programme Officer of the college organised the programme. National Unity Day The NSS implementing colleges of Bharathidasan University are instructed to observe the Birth Anniversary of late Shri. Sardar Vallabhai Patel as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) on 31 st October 2014. The details are given below: 1. Thanthai Hans Roever College, Perambalur The NSS units of Thanthai Hans Roever College, Perambalur in association with Rotary Club, Perambalur and Public people observed the National Unity Day on 31 st October 2014. Dr. K. Varadharajan, Chairman of the Roever Educational Institutions presided over the function in the presence of Mr. John Ashok Varadharajan, Deputy Chairman, Roever Educational Institutions, Mr. C. Chandrasekaran, District President, Bharatiya Janata Party, Mr. Ravi, President, Rotary Club, Mr. Aravindan and other members of Rotary Club, Dr. V. Ayothi, Principal of the college. Run for Unity was held from new bus stand of Perambalur to Sangupettai, in which 100 NSS Volunteers and 100 public were participated. NSS Programme Officers, Mr. D. Rengaraj, Mr. T. Thiyagarajan, Ms. A. Anitha, Mr. P. Deepak and Ms. K. Nesapriya organised the programme. Bharathidasan University 7

2. Periyar E.V.R. College, Trichy The NSS Volunteers took the pledge of National Unity Day on 31 st October 2014. The Principal of the College administered the oath to the volunteers. 3. Kalai Kaviri College of Fine Arts, Trichy Kalai Kaviri College of Fine Arts, Trichy celebrated the National Unity Day as an honour to Sardar Vallabai Patel s Birth Anniversary. In this event 100 NSS Volunteers participated and NSS Programme Officer Mr. K. Sathesh Kumar guided the students to take Rashtriya Ekta Diwas Pledge as a token to show their patriotism and service to the Country. All Teachers and Office Staff participated in the function. 4. Govt. Arts College for Women, Pudukkottai The National Unity Day was celebrated by the NSS units of Govt. Arts College for Women, Pudukkottai in association with the Department of History of the college. Dr. J. Govinda Doss, Principal of the college presided over the programme. The National Unity Day Pledge was administered by Ms. R. Padma, Associate Professor, Department of History to all the students and staff of the college. Earlier Run for Unity was conducted by Bharathidasan University 8

the NSS Volunteers. Run for Unity was flagged off by the Principal of the college Pledge was administered to all the students & Staff members of the college 5. Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan College of Arts & Science for Women, Perambalur Under the auspicious of Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan College of Arts and Science for Women, Perambalur, the National Service Scheme team organised a programme under the title National Unity Day Oath Taking on 31.10.2014. Principal and Vice Principal of Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan College of Arts and Science for Women, Perambalur inaugurated this programme. Ms. R. Arunadevi, NSS Programme Officer welcomed the gathering. Ms. K. Dhivya, the second UG NSS Volunteer imparted the pledge to all the other NSS Volunteers. It reminded the Iron Man of India SARDAR VALLABHAI PATEL and his contribution to our nation to preserve unity. Finally Ms. Narmatha, NSS Programme Officer proposed the Vote of Thanks. It attained success with the co ordination of NSS Programme Officers and NSS Volunteers. Bharathidasan University 9

Indira Gandhi NSS Award Ms. V. Gowthami, NSS Volunteer of Cauvery College for Women, Trichy received the prestigious Indira Gandhi NSS Award in the Volunteer category for the year 2013 14, from the Honourable President of India, Shri. Pranab Mukherjee on 19.11.2014 at New Delhi. TN State Awards List of Tamil Nadu State Award Winners of Bharathidasan University are given below for three years 2010 11: NSS Volunteers 1. S. Imayam Arts & Science College, Trichy As per the deliberations of the District Collector s meeting, the NSS units of Imayam Arts & Science College, Thuraiyur, Trichy dt organised a Voter s Awareness Rally on 01.11.2014. Tahsildar of Thuraiyur, Chairman of the Imayam Educational Institutions, Mr. Periyannan, Secretary, Mr. Andi, Deputy Chairman, Mr. Sivakumar, Principal of the College, Dr. N. Banumathi along with 150 NSS Volunteers participated in the rally. NSS Programme Officers, Mr. K. Kannan, Mr. S. Ramachandran and Ms. A. Jayanthi organised the rally. Bharathidasan University 11

2. Govt. Arts College for Women, Pudukkottai A Voter s Awareness Rally was held at Pudukkottai by the NSS Units of Govt. Arts College for Women, Pudukkottai on 30.10.2014. The Rally was inaugurated by the District Collector at the Pudukkottai Court premises. Rally to Promote Reading Habit The Society for the Advancement of Library and Information Science (SALIS) along with Puthiyathalaimurai T.V. Channel organised a Rally to promote awareness on importance of Reading Habit on 15 th November 2014 at Tiruchirappalli. SALIS is a registered Professional Body for the betterment of Library and Information Science in India particularly in Tamil Nadu. One of the objectives of SALIS is to promote Reading Habit in the society for creating a knowledge society. The Rally was conducted at 7 different places viz., Chennai, Trichy, Coimbatore, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Erode and Pondicherry. The rally started from Bishop Heber College and ended at Major Saravanan memorial circle (near Vestry school). Librarians of different schools and colleges, school and college students participated in the rally. Around 100 NSS Volunteers from Jamal Mohamed College, Trichy and Bharathidasan University Constituent College, Srirangam, Bharathidasan University 12

Trichy participated in the rally. Identification of Institutions Committee Meeting The meeting of the Identification of the Institutions (Colleges & Schools) Committee was held on 21.11.2014 at 11.00 am in the NSS Office to identify the beneficiary institutions for the supply of Electrical Sanitary Napkin Incinerators (ESNIs) during the II Phase of the BDU NSS WISH BHEL CSR Project (2014 15). Members present were: 1. Dr. L. Ganesan, NSS Coordinator & Organising Secretary, WISH 2. Dr. K. Kala, Regional Joint Director of Collegiate Education, Trichy 3. On behalf of Joint Director of School Education (SSA) Mr. P. Saravanan, Assistant Project Officer (SSA), Trichy Mr. R. Asohan, Assistant Project Officer (SSA), Karur Mr. D. Subramaniyan, APO (SSA), Perambalur Convenor Member Member Member Member 4. Dr. N. Murugeswari, EC Member, WISH Member 5. Mr. V. Ganapathy, Coordinator, WISH Member The committee scrutinised and finalised the list of institutions as 15 Colleges and 35 schools in Trichy, Karur, Perambalur and Ariyalur districts comes under the jurisdiction of Bharathidasan University for the supply of the Electrical Sanitary Napkin Incinerators during the II Phase (2014 15) of the BDU NSS WISH BHEL CSR Project.
