Summary of Findings 1 STATEWIDE REGIONAL ANALYSIS North Texas is the 2 nd largest region behind Greater Houston with an enrollment of 1.25 million students North Texas has the 2 nd largest share of A or B schools behind the Rio Grande Valley It also has the 2 nd largest share of high-performing schools among its high-poverty schools (Gold Ribbon Schools) 2 STATEWIDE DISTRICT ANALYSIS Dallas ISD has increased its share of A or B schools by 10% since 2017 which is the greatest increase in the state among large districts Dallas ISD has the largest share of high-performing schools among its high-poverty schools (Gold Ribbon schools) of any large district in the state, it has also has the greatest increase (9%) since 2017 3 NORTH TEXAS REGIONAL ANALYSIS White students in North Texas are 3 times more likely than Black or Hispanic students to attend A schools North Texas outperforms the state in 3-5 th grade reading and math, English I and II EOC, and on the SAT In contrast, North Texas has lower Algebra I EOC scores and a lower graduation rate than the statewide averages 35
Summary of Findings 4 NORTH TEXAS DISTRICT ANALYSIS Frisco ISD, Keller ISD, and Plano ISD have the largest share of A or B schools in North Texas; they also have the smallest share of economically disadvantaged students Frisco ISD, Keller ISD, and Dallas ISD have had the greatest increase in A or B schools since 2017 Dallas ISD, at 88% economically disadvantaged, has the highest share of Gold Ribbon Schools in North Texas; second to Dallas ISD is Garland ISD with 10% Three districts in North Texas (Frisco ISD, Keller ISD, and Plano ISD) outperform the state on all cradle-to-career measures 5 CHARTER SCHOOL ANALYSIS The majority of charter schools in North Texas receive D or F grades Of charters in North Texas that are majority Black (more than 50% of the student body is Black), half receive an F grade Similarly, the majority of majority Hispanic charters (more than 50% of the student body is Hispanic) receive D or F grades Of the 5 largest charter networks in North Texas, Universal Academy is the highest performing with 50% A or B grades 36
