MILTON KEYNES PREPARATORY SCHOOL About our school Milton Keynes Preparatory School is an IAPS co-educational day school which is located on the south west side of Central Milton Keynes. The school was founded in 1975 and a new school building was purpose built in 1986. The school has been built in planned phases, from initial pupil numbers of 85 to its current numbers of just under 500. The school has developed good relationships with its parents, who accord with the school aims of the provision of a service which shows genuine regard for the needs of working parents. Our families are both local and from further afield. The school s aim is to create a happy environment. We have happy, articulate, well-motivated children, whose academic results are a credit to them, the staff, their parents and the school. Children show respect for themselves and others. Above all else, we aim to give our children the best preparation for their senior school, so that when they leave us they have the confidence to build on the academic and personal foundations we have helped to establish. The school is currently split into three departments: Nursery Department, Pre Preparatory Department and Preparatory Department. Our Nursery Department includes children from the age of 2 months to 2+ years. Once our children turn 2½ to 3 years of age, they enter our Pre Preparatory Department and this department includes children up to the age of 7 (Year 2). Our Preparatory Department pupils are aged between 8 and 11 years (Year 3 to Year 6). The school is fortunate to have two ICT suites, which include an array of imacs, MacBooks and ipads for use within the curriculum. Each classroom is equipped with interactive whiteboards/touchscreens, enabling technology to form an integral part of teaching and learning. There is a Science Lab, D&T Lab, Music Studio, a dedicated Art room, and there are numerous, well-stocked, libraries for the children to choose resources from. The school has a large gym/sports hall and purpose built astro-turf courts for use for sports fixtures and PE/Games. Our school meals are cooked freshly on-site daily by our Chef and his team. The achievement at the school is at a very high level, with both boys and girls, performing at levels above expected norms and the majority of our Preparatory Department pupils will have reached the required standards for 11+ or have gained places at senior independent schools. The school has a very high reputation for its sporting achievements and has, consistently, reached the regional finals for numerous IAPS Netball, Rounders and Hockey Tournaments. The school has a strong, committed, Senior Management Team, each being responsible for his/her areas within the school. The Leadership Team provides an excellent link to the parents, staff and children of all the departments throughout the school. We have a number of peripatetic music teachers who visit the school weekly to offer tuition to our pupils from Year 1 to Year 6. The school is very proud of its previous inspection by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (November 2014), which found us to be Excellent on all aspects of the school and was judged as Outstanding on all 4 aspects of the EYFS. A copy of our report can be found via the School Policies link on the school s website.
