Registration Summer School registration will be online. Please see page 2 of this brochure. Students must register at their current grade level. Current grade level is student s grade as during the 17-18 school year. REGISTRATION FEE: No fee for Summer School 2018 ONLINE REGISTRATION OPENS FEBRUARY 26, 2018 Elementary Summer Music Program INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC SESSIONS will take place in August, 2018. Registration information for Instrumental Music, Band and Strings, will be coming home with the students later this spring. Registration for Instrumental Music will be in paper format, not online this year. SUMMER DAY CAMP Programs Cudahy Recreation Department offers summer day camp programs. Students will select three classes. Summer School Lunch Program Lunch will be embedded into Session Three. Summer School Lunch is free for all Cudahy residents age 18 and under. If you are participating in the lunch program, but not summer school, please join us for lunch at 12:30 PM. Elementary School Summer Program Included in this brochure is a listing of courses offered this summer for Cudahy students (residents, current Open Enrollment, and Chapter 220 participants). We will notify you if a course is cancelled due to lack of sufficient enrollment. Please note any teacher recommendations for making course selections. Transportation is the responsibility of the parents. Sixth Grade Success Secrets: A class for current 5th graders designed to make the transition into Middle School a successful one. Students will participate in activities with a focus on building self-esteem, solving conflicts, dealing with peer pressure, making friends, organizational and study skills, homework planning and stress management. Cudahy School District Summer School Online Registration Directions 1) Go to Cudahy School District website: www.cudahy.k12.wi.us 2) Select Parents from the menu bar on the top of the page. 3) Select Skyward Family Access 4) Enter in your Login ID and Password. (If you do not remember your Login ID and Password, please select Forgot your Login/Password. As long as your email is current on Skyward, you will receive an email to reset your login information. If you need support, please call 414-294-7406.) 5) You will see a message that indicates Arena Scheduling is now open for the 2018-2019 school year. 6) On the left under Arena Scheduling, select the 2018-19 child that you would like to schedule classes for Summer School. 7) Add classes per each class period; Class 1 (8:00-9:25); Class 2 (9:30-10:55; Class 3 (11:00-12:45) 8) Select lunch if taking lunch. (There is no submit button allowing changes throughout the open period.) 9) To print schedule click on View/Print Schedule then select print schedule. 10) Once completed verify all Student Information to make sure all information is up to date. If not click on My Account on top of screen to make changes click Save. Medication Administration and Medical Alert Information Summer School administration will need medical information for any student currently enrolled in the Cudahy School District. If you have any specific needs that you would like to relay to the Summer School staff, please contact the summer school secretary Selection of Summer School Courses If you received a letter from your child s principal indicating that they would benefit from a math and/or reading improvement course, please be sure to make this selection first. Please select the three courses that you would like to enroll your child in, making sure to select a course for each of the following sessions: Class 1 (8:00-9:25); Class 2 (9:30-10:55; Class 3 (11:00-12:45) Please make a selection of whether your child will participate in the free lunch program. This decision can be made at any time during summer school, but this will help us plan. Some courses tend to be very popular so register early. Getting Ready for Kindergarten Eligibility: Students in four-year-old kindergarten (recommended, but is not a pre-requisite) Children must be five years of age by September 1 to enroll in five-year-old kindergarten. Description: Children who are entering five-year-old kindergarten will find this class beneficial. Activities will help to develop pre-academic, social and group skills to aid the transition to kindergarten in the fall. Learning Through Play Eligibility: Students in four-year-old kindergarten (recommended, but is not a pre-requisite) Description: Learning Through Play will introduce new content and play materials to stimulate students creativity and background knowledge. Fun With Words Eligibility: Students in four-year-old kindergarten (recommended, but is not a pre-requisite) Description: Students in this class will build upon their phonemic awareness skills and learn new word families through fun, interactive games and activities.

Through enriching projects and activities, children will continue developing math, science, reading, writing, speaking, listening and thinking skills. By using a thematic approach to integrate the curriculum, first grade readiness skills will be taught and kindergarten concepts reviewed in a relaxed, "summer approach" to learning. This course is open to all students entering first grade in fall. Learning Math Using Physical Activity Eligibility: Students currently in Kindergarten Description: This class uses a variety of activities to enrich and enhance children's understanding of number sense and math concepts, such as joining, separating, comparing, ordering, etc. This motivating approach is a fun way to make connections to math using movement. Reading & Math Improvement Eligibility: Students in Kindergarten Language Arts and Math is essential to success in school. You'll be receiving a letter from your school if this course is appropriate for your child.

Minecraft Description: This class will use the MinecraftEdu software to provide students the Minecraft experience while learning. Students will create, connect and collaborate with other students as they explore Minecraft worlds. Junior Spanish Club Description: Students will learn basic Spanish words, including colors, numbers, the alphabet, months, days of the week, and animals and foods. Students will be able to relay information using basic sentences. Backyard Games Eligibility: Students in Grade 4 Description: Students will learn a variety of games played outdoors including Capture the Flag, Color Tag, Poison Ball, etc. Whether it be an innocent competition or an interactive activity, students will be equipped with a variety of games that they can bring home to family and friends. Nutritious is Delicious Eligibility: Students currently in Grade 4 Birding Wisconsin! Description: Students will be immersed in the hobby of birding. Their interest in birds and their observations through seeing them, watching them and learning to identify them will be sparked. Students will also learn about bats in or area, the issues they face and leave with an appreciation for these misunderstood creatures. Learning English as a Second Language Description: Students who are learning English as a second language will continue to build their English skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking. Description: This class offers students the opportunity to learn about the food groups, read recipes, eat healthy, make healthy snacks, and to exercise as a part of their daily routine.

During this enrichment class, students will virtually travel around the world while learning about the cultures of many countries along the way. This class will engage students through virtual field trips, music, stories, and projects. Awesome adventures will take place while kids fill their passports along the way. Pack your bags! Description: This class will expose the children to various styles in art. Working in both two and three dimensions, the children will paint, sketch, create art in the style of the world s great cultures, and experience a wonderful, artistic adventure. Leadership & Sportsmanship Reading Improvement reading/language arts is essential to success in school. You'll be receiving a letter from your school if this course is appropriate for your child. Math Improvement mathematics is essential to success in school. You'll be receiving a letter from your school if this course is appropriate for your child. Description: This class for boys and girls consists of a variety of sports. Sports introduced include: football, basketball, soccer, track and field, volleyball, baseball, and badminton. In this team-taught class, students learn how to develop positive competitive attributes. Students learn how to implement skills necessary to be successful in that sport. Students learn how to use conflict resolution strategies. Each class concludes with a group discussion and reflection of the day s activities. Students are required to write a journal entry for each day of class and for other out-of-class experiences.

Registration Materials will be coming home with students in later spring. We will be signing up for Instrumental Music summer sessions through paper format. Sixth Grade Success Secrets! For Current 5th Graders Sixth Grade Success Secrets is for current 5th grade students who will be entering into Cudahy Middle School for the 2018 2019 school year. WHO: Current 5th grade students entering into 6th grade in the fall. WHAT: A class designed to make the transition into Middle School a successful one. Students will participate in activities with a focus on building self-esteem, solving conflicts, dealing with peer pressure, making friends, organizational and study skills, homework planning and stress management.
