Prince of Peace Catholic School Bits in Bytes volume 10.23 An E-Newsletter 2/19/16 Middle School Team 1 st Place Victory Means Advancing to STATE Competition Our POPCS Middle School Quiz Bowl team defeated teams from St. Joseph s Greenville and Cambridge Academy Greenwood to take first place in the upstate regional SCISA Quiz Bowl competition this week. Led by POPCS teacher Mark Brown and coach Jim McCabe, teammates Madelynn P., Gayle R., Andy W., Grace W., Tommy D., and Brendan B. worked together to answer questions and advance through the rapid fire rounds of question and answer on all subject matters. Our team will now compete with other Regional winners throughout the state at the SCISA State Quiz Bowl on Thursday, March 3 rd. Congratulations POPCS students! St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Grant The Diocese of Charleston is offering the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Tuition Assistance Grant again this year. The purpose of this grant is to assist Catholic families wishing to send their children to a Diocesan elementary school who require financial assistance. Catholic Families, in good standing with their pastor, are eligible to apply. Applications are available in the school office. The deadline to receive applications in the school office is March 21 st to ensure that they are received to the Diocese prior to their deadline. Carol Tonon Scholarship APPLICATIONS FOR THE TONON SCHOLARSHIP FUND for students attending Prince of Peace Catholic School will be available to any student wishing to apply in the school office. This scholarship is open to ALL POPCS students and is based not only on financial need, but also on academic and community service. Previous scholarship winners may also apply for renewal. Next week only, Feb 22 Feb 26 at 3PM, students can purchase arrows for $1 each from the front desk. The arrows can be shot at the hearts on any classroom door. The student must tell the front desk which classroom they are aiming for when they purchase the arrows. It will take THREE arrows to pierce ONE heart. The class with the most unpierced hearts at the end of this week will win an ice cream sundae party. March Lunch Ordering Lunch ordering for March is currently open in OptionC. Lunch orders can be entered through Midnight on February 25th. No late orders can be accepted. If you are ordering for 3

Talent Show Does your child have a special talent that he/she would like to showcase? Is he/she a singer, dancer, gymnast, or great at playing an instrument? Has he/she ever wowed friends with a magic trick or comedy routine? If your student is in Grades 4 8 and has a special talent, we are looking for them! The PTO and Student Council will be hosting a Talent Show during An Evening With the Arts on Tuesday, April 19 at 6:30pm and are in search of fantastic acts. You may sign up in your classroom Monday, February 22 through Friday, February 26. You will also need to have a parent sign and return the Talent Show Guidelines and Permission Form on the back of the flyer sent home in the PTO folder no later than Wednesday, March 2. Additional permission forms will be available in the classrooms. Tryouts will be held on Monday, March 21 and Tuesday, March 22 after school in the Middle School Building. If your act is selected to perform in the talent show, you must attend the dress rehearsal after school on Monday, April 18. Celebrating Abe Lincoln in K4 Parish Happenings Lenten Fish Fry - TONIGHT The year, the Knights of Columbus will host two Friday Knight Lenten Seafood Dinners. The first one is tonight! Dinner will be served from 5:30PM 7:00PM in the PAC, with dine-in or take out options available. Cost is $8 per adult; $6 Seniors(65+) and children under 12; children under 4 are free. Max cost is $30 per immediate family. Easter Egg Hunt Preparation Knights of Columbus at Prince of Peace will be hosting an Easter egg hunt for youth Easter Sunday morning after 10 a.m. Mass and we need your help.
