July 2018 Another outstanding year draws to a close. It is amazing how much has been achieved by the children, staff, parents and governors in one year. The achievements extend from the academic, to the sporting and the creative arts and to the numerous fun and fundraising exploits of the PTA. We have had a very busy but fantastic summer term. As you will be aware, the Junior School received a visit from Ofsted this term and we are thrilled that they have graded the junior School as Outstanding. This is an amazing achievement and one which governors and staff are delighted with. The inspector spoke positively about all aspects of school life, including the commitment made towards ensuring that our children are safe and the excellent progress being made by all children. This month also saw the release of our Key Stage 2 SATS results. We are pleased that, for the third year in a row, we are working above national averages in all areas. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all members of staff, the children and you as parents for your support this year. Congratulations to all of those children in Year 3 who have recently made their First Holy Communion. We celebrated this by having Year 2 join Year 3 for mass in the Junior School Hall. The children wore their outfits and it was lovely to see many parents attend as well. Father Anthony decided to bring his flamingo along to talk to the children, which certainly made for an interesting homily. The last full week of the school year has been extremely busy. The highlight has definitely been Year 6 and their performance of Joseph and his technicolour dream coat. It was a fantastic evening performance and the children really put on an outstanding show. Thank you to Year 6 and the Year 6 team who were instrumental in putting this together and helping the Year 6 children to make this such a great success. It has also been a week of change here at school. The children have all visited their new classrooms and all of them have met their new teachers. We have met new Nursery and Reception parents at meetings and although there is still much to do, inevitably our thoughts turn to new beginnings ahead. We say a very sad goodbye to our Year 6 children this week as they leave us to move onto secondary school. The Year 6 children will be greatly missed by us as they have such lovely personalities, a give-it-a-go attitude and contribute so much to school. I know you will all join me in wishing them lots of happiness and success in their new schools, please remember them in your prayers. I have enjoyed immensely my role as Acting Headteacher over the past two terms. It has been a very rewarding, enjoyable and challenging role! Thank you to the staff and families of St Joseph s who have supported me during this time. I am definitely looking forward to recharging my batteries over the summer holidays with my family. Have a wonderful summer and enjoy the outstanding weather! Mrs Kelly Acting Headteacher

Staffing News We sadly say good-bye this term to Miss Long, Mrs McGrath, Miss Martin, Miss O Rourke, Mrs Salter, Mrs Stewart, Miss Zengin, Mrs Kalli and Miss Baker. We genuinely thank them for all their hard work, commitment and the important contribution they have made to our school. They will be dearly missed! We also wish good luck to Mrs Flegg who is about to have her second child. We look forward to hearing her news when we come back to school in September. School places in September We currently have places in our Nursery and Reception classes for September 2018. If you are interested in a place or know of a family looking for a school place for their child, please contact Mrs McLeary in the Infant office for further information and a tour of the schools. Sporting Success What an outstanding month it has been for sporting events at St Joseph s. On the 5 th July we sent our basketball team and gym team to the London Youth School Games at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre. The children completed incredibly well and we were delighted to achieve 3 rd place in the basketball event and 2 nd place in the floor event. This was a magnificent effort particularly as 33 boroughs took part. Also, on the 5 TH July, our Infant children took part in the Catholic Croydon Sports at Thomas Beckett. It was a great morning and the children were so enthusiastic and cheered each other on. We came a very respectable 4 th place in this event. Last week, we took part in the Para games, which was held in Riddlesdown School. This was a fantastic event and the children really enjoyed the different events particularly the trampolining. Finally, we took two teams to the annual BTG Netball and Football competition on the 12 th and 13 th July. The children worked incredibly well as teams, which ultimately resulted in a 4 th place in the netball event and 3 rd place in the football event. At this time of year, we award our sporting awards for our overall boys and girls sports competitors. This year the Victor Ludorum is awarded to Benson in 6L and the Victrix Ludorum is awarded to Shannon in 6M. Well done to them both. We are very proud of you! Finally, we were delighted to hear that we have been awarded again, for the fourth year in a row, the School Games Goldmark. This is in recognition of St Joseph s commitment to and development of competition, school sport, physical education and physical activity. I would like to say a special thank you to Mrs Mangan and Mr Kavanagh for their continued hard work and commitment to the development of sport at St Joseph s.

Thank you to everyone who brought bottles and teddies to school in the run-up to the Summer Fair. Thank you, also, to everyone who came to support the fair, which resulted in around 3500 being raised. This is an outstanding.sum, which will help towards developing the Infant School playground in the Autumn term. Thank you all very much indeed. Thank you, especially, to the PTA for all their work throughout the year in putting things on which are fundraising, entertaining or both.

May God's blessing go with us today, At the end of this school year we pray. That you keep us safe and give us rest So we start again renewed and refreshed. Full of health, full of fun Ready to come and learn again. May God's blessing go with us today, As we begin our school holiday. Give your peace and your joy, To every girl and every boy. Help the teachers to enjoy the break, and prepare and plan for the new intake. May God's blessings await us next year, To embrace each new challenge without fear. Fill this school with your love, and guide our hearts from above. Full of faith, full of hope, full of joy, and full of love. Amen Thank you for the many cards, gifts and kind words shared with the staff, you are always so generous, and it really is appreciated. Have a wonderful summer and we will see you on September 5th!
