Because the focus of the program is on building student foundational English skills, no minimum English proficiency is required. Here is an example of what you may experience in a typical Club Keiki class: for kids: 1. Name tags: Students create their own name tags to be displayed on their desks. They will write or draw at least three of their favorite things. When students are finished, they will share them with the class. Ex. My name is. I am years old. My favorite fruits are. Using colorful and interactive flashcards, the teacher reviews vocabulary with the class.. To practice the newly learned vocabulary, students will play apple toss. First, students sit in a circle. A student says one fruit word and tosses it to another student sitting in the circle. The game keeps going until there is one winner.. To practice with writing, students complete a likes and dislikes handout. Upon completion, students will share their answers with a partner. for teens: 1. WHAT ARE THE STUDENTS AND THE PARENTS SAYING ABOUT US? (Participant: Student M from Fukuoka, Japan, 1 years old) At first, I didn t understand what the teacher was saying; however, I was able to understand more and more during the program and I felt so happy about it. In the future, I would like to study abroad in America. (Parents) CPC took our kids to places that we couldn t. It was very nice that CPC has not only English speaking teachers but Japanese speaking teachers and staff. (Participant: Student M from Kanagawa, Japan, 8 years old) I looked forward to lunch because it was different every day. I was very happy because there was snack time. I was excited when my teacher understood my English. I would like to join CPC next year. (parent) I was glad that I had the courage to let my kids join CPC s Keiki program because my kid had a great time every day. When compared to other kids programs, CPC s program includes not only English class but activities, lunch, snacks and a T-shirt. That s the reason I picked CPC. The teachers were very friendly and talked to not only the kids but the parents. All the staff were very kind. Thank you so much for the great summer memories. 7
