REGULAR MEETING BOARD OF EDUCATION ALEXANDRIA PUBLIC SCHOOLS ALEXANDRIA, MINNESOTA OCTOBER 17, 2016 The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Alexandria School District, Alexandria, Minnesota, was called to order by School Board Chairperson Dean Anderson at 7:01 p.m. in the District Office Oak Conference Room, Alexandria, Minnesota. School Board Members Present: Alan Zeithamer, Angie Krebs, Pam Carlson, Sandy Susag, Dean Anderson, Dave Anderson, and (ex-officio) Superintendent Julie Critz. To approve the submission of a grant application to the 3M Eco Grant, MAELC Strategic Initiative, DuPont Pioneer Case Curriculum Institute, CHS Prairie Lakes, and the Walmart Cyber Grant and the resolution for the following donations and grants: RESOLUTION FOR ALEXANDRIA PUBLIC SCHOOLS TO ACCEPT DONATIONS AND GRANTS WHEREAS, the Alexandria School District Board encourages the support of the district s educational programs through the funding and support of grant opportunities and donations that meet the goals and objectives of the school district; 2

WHEREAS, the school district will control and maintain all grants and donations to ensure that the interests of all students are met; WHEREAS, the grants and donations listed below have been reviewed and approved by the administration of the Alexandria School District; THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the School Board of Alexandria School District - No. 206, State of Minnesota, to accept the following grants and donations: The Alexandria Area High School received a donation of $3,038 from 3M. The Alexandria Area High School Culinary Arts program received a grant of $2,500 from Hospitality Minnesota Education Foundation. The Miltona Science Magnet School received a donation of $1,597.27 from the Friends of the Magnet (Miltona Parent Advisory Committee). The Miltona Science Magnet School received a donation of $1,002.73 from Leaf Valley Game & Fish. APPROVE RESOLUTIONS FOR THE APPLICATION TO MSHSL FOUNDATION To approve the following resolutions for submission of a grant application: RESOLUTION OF SCHOOL BOARD SUPPORTING DISTRICT APPLICATION TO MINNESOTA STATE HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE FOUNDATION WHEREAS, the Minnesota State High School League Foundation was formed to provide support for Minnesota s high school youth to participate in athletics and fine arts; WHEREAS, the Alexandria Public School District Board recognizes the value of student participation in extracurricular activities; and WHEREAS, the MSHSL Foundation is offering grants and funding to assist school districts to provide seminars/training opportunities or support for specific school functions for students/faculty members/officials and others who are involved in athletic and fine arts programs. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Alexandria Public School District Board supports the District s application to the Minnesota State High School League Foundation for a Form A grant. 3

RESOLUTION OF SCHOOL BOARD SUPPORTING DISTRICT APPLICATION TO MINNESOTA STATE HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE FOUNDATION WHEREAS, the Minnesota State High School League Foundation was formed to provide support for Minnesota s high school youth to participate in athletics and fine arts; WHEREAS, the Alexandria Public School District Board recognizes the value of student participation in extracurricular activities; and WHEREAS, the MSHSL Foundation is offering grants and funding to assist school districts to provide seminars/training opportunities or support for specific school functions for students/faculty members/officials and others who are involved in athletic and fine arts programs. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Alexandria Public School District Board supports the District s application to the Minnesota State High School League Foundation for a Form B/C grant. EXTENDED FIELD TRIP FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES To approve the following extended field trip: The AAHS Concert Choir will travel to Camp Ripley to attend a retreat on October 15 and 16, 2016. To approve the following fundraising activities: The high school marching band will be selling Herberger s Community Day booklets this fall and will also be bagging groceries at Cub Foods in April, 2017. The high school jazz band will be holding a Fall Harvest Ball on Friday, November 4 th at 7:30 p.m. The high school cheerleaders will be holding the following fundraisers this year: o Cardinal Card sales o Kid Clinic o Homecoming t-shirt sales Early Education Family Education Advisory Board members will be holding the following fundraising events this fall: o Raffle for Alexandria Aviation plane ride and a gift certificate to Doolittle s restaurant o Papa Murphy pizza sales The swimming and diving team will be holding three fundraisers this fall. On October 8, 2016, they hosted a True Team Meet and on October 29 and November 10-12, they are selling programs, working concessions, and selling t-shirts at the Section 6A swim/dive meet and the Central Lakes Conference meet. 4

FIRST READING OF DISTRICT POLICY REVISIONS DISTRICT POLICY ADOPTION SCHOOL DISTRICT AGREEMENT INDEPENDENT PROVIDER APPLICATION COOPERATIVE SPONSORSHIP APPLICATION DISSOLUTION OF COOPERATIVE SPONSORSHIP AGREEMENT To approve the first reading of the following district policies: Policy 404 Employment Background Checks Policy 405 Veteran s Preference Policy 406 Public and Private Personnel Data Policy 410 Family and Medical Leave To adopt revisions to the following district policy: Policy 801 Equal Access to Facilities of Secondary Schools To approve the following agreement: Concurrent Enrollment Agreement with the Alexandria Technical and Community College for the 2016-2017 school year. To approve the application from the Lakes Area Alpine Ski Team to be the independent provider for the alpine skiing program in the District for the 2016-2017 school year. To approve the application for a cooperative sponsorship between the Alexandria School District, Fergus Falls School District, Chokio-Alberta School District, West Central Area School District, and Wheaton School District in girls and boys alpine skiing for the 2016-2017 school year. To approve the application for dissolution of a cooperative sponsorship agreement for girls and boys alpine skiing with Chokio-Alberta School District, Fergus Falls School District, Herman-Norcross School District, West Central Area School District, and Wheaton School District. Vote on Consent Agenda: ENROLLMENT UPDATE ACCEPT FINANCIAL AUDIT Trevor Peterson provided an update on District enrollment numbers as of October 1, 2016. Motion by Dave Anderson, seconded by Susag, to accept the 2015-2016 District Financial Audit as presented. 5

ACCEPT WORLD S BEST WORKFORCE REPORT SUMMARY ACCEPT DISTRICT AGREEMENT Motion by Krebs, seconded by Zeithamer, to accept the 2015-2016 World s Best Workforce Report Summary as presented. Motion by Dave Anderson, seconded by Susag, to accept the 2016-2017 Early Childhood Screening Agreement between Alexandria Public Schools and Horizon Public Health.
