THE LIBRARY & THE COMMON CORE The Horseheads High School Library continues to work with the faculty to create curriculum and provide access to resources that meet the new Common Core standards. We are able to provide a variety of both print and online materials that allow students to engage in activities that help them become information literate, lifelong learners. As librarians, we are fortunate to be able to co-teach in a number of subject areas on a regular basis to incorporate both library and content skills within our core curriculum. Some of our most recent lessons include creating annotated citations, learning about how to judge the quality of a website, using Web 2.0 tools to highlight and sticky note online articles, summarizing, using the databases, and an introduction to college research. We continue to build on our materials collection to support students both academically and personally as they visit us for their reading and research activities.

LIBRARY TECH TIP: Many teachers are now sending students emails about assignments and they are also receiving messages from the office and library through their school emails. Please encourage your students to check their email regularly so that they don t miss important information. We are more than happy to help your students access this valuable resource. Just have them come and visit us in the library. Students often need Word, PowerPoint, or Excel to complete school assignments. Don t have these at home? No problem! Your students now have their own school email and access to all these programs in the cloud through Office 365. Students also have unlimited access to storage in the 365 cloud which stores their documents, spreadsheets, and presentations where students can access them from any internet connected device. 2015-2016 HEALTH EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS New York State law requires a health examination for all students entering the school district for the first time and when entering Pre-K or K, 2nd, 4th, 7th, and 10th grade.
