GREAT NEWS FOR RENO COUNTY ************************************************* SHORT TERM HOST OPPORTUNITIES Hosting teens 15-18 from Argentina and Norway for one month through States 4-H International Exchange Programs will be an option in 2015 for families with teens. These exchanges require a host sibling within two years of the age and the same gender as their exchangee. Applications for hosting through States 4-H are completed on line. A link is available on the Kansas 4-H web site. Under the IFYE exchange incoming exchangees come from a number of countries including many in Europe, Asia and perhaps others. These exchangees stay with several families, 2-3 weeks each during summer and fall. There are no host sibling requirements, and many families with younger children have hosted successfully. Farm hosts are always needed. Most IFYE s will be over 19, but a few countries now send exchangees who are younger. Any family applying for States 4-H hosting may be considered to host an IFYE if no States 4-H match is available. Hosting information will be updated by January 1. Go to www.kansas4-h.org. Look for the link to Host Families on the What s Hot list. For more information, contact Mary Kay Munson at 785-238-3631 or munson@broadband.net.

Payment is due at the time services are provided. Those planning on showing market beef in 4-H or FFA at the Reno County Fair must tag their beef on this date. This is the only date set for beef tagging. Market Beef Showmen will have to find a buyer for their beef. We will not have trucking arrangements to any packing plants after the fair. Questions? Contact Darren Busick or Joan Krumme at 620-662-2371. *********************************************************** Tips for Giving a Public Presentation: 1. Dress appropriately for the occasion so you feel at ease and look presentable. 2. Stand erect-on both feet. Good posture will help convince your audience that you mean business. 3. Outline your talk, do not write it out word-for-word. Use your outline as you give your talk, if you need it- but never read your talk! 4. Practice, Practice, Practice giving your talk. Give it to yourself alone at first in front of a mirror. Later, have someone listen to you who will offer suggestions for improving it. The more you give it the more comfortable you will be. 5. Speak so people can hear and understand you easily. This will come with confidence and practice. 6. Speak slowly; talk at a natural speed but change occasionally for emphasis and better attention. 7. Watch pronunciation of words. Don t use words you can t pronounce or understand. 8. Use charts or visuals if they help you present the topic and add to your talk. Make sure the letters on the poster are big enough to be read. 9. Be pleasant. A smile on your face will put a smile in your voice! 10. Be at ease. Be yourself. Be enthusiastic. 11. Have fun sharing the information with your audience! They want to hear what you have to say and are on your side and want to be supportive of your presentation. Have Fun!!! Tips taken from the Sedgwick County Newsletter.
