Student and Parents/Guardians please read and sign: Elective changes can be made until June 1 st. No elective changes will be made after this date. Please ensure that your student has made the best decisions for next year by the deadline. A course verification form will be sent home in May. This form will list the electives that the student is registered to take next year. All elective changes must be made in writing with a parent/guardian signature. They will not be able to change classes after June 1 st or during the 2015-2016 school year. Some elective courses may not be offered due to a low number of interest. Students may be placed in intervention classes rather than electives if additional instruction is needed for math and reading. Many types of data will be used to make this decision (grades in classes, benchmark grades, SRI levels, and STAAR results). Summer school information will be sent out near the end of April. Elective Sheet P.E or Athletics P.E is required for 1 ½ years in the 7 th and 8 th grades. Students who took a full year of P.E in grade 7 are only required to take ½ year in grade 8. The Athletics class is a full year commitment. Concepts of Engineering Grades 7 and 8 Full Year Course and Technology One high school elective credit Provides an overview of the various fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and their interrelationships. Students will use a variety of hand tools, power tools, machinery, computer hardware and software applications to complete assignments and projects.
Principles of Manufacturing Grade 8 Full Year Course One high school elective credit Students gain knowledge and skills in the application, design, production, and assessment of products, services, and systems and how those knowledge and skills are applied to manufacturing. Students will use a variety of hand tools, power tools, machinery, computer hardware and software applications to complete assignments and projects.
Business Information Management I (BIM I) Learn technology skills for personal use, school, college, and the workforce Learn how to use word processing (Microsoft Word), spreadsheets (ExCel), multimedia presentations (Power Point), databases (Access), & Internet research Is a year long course - 1 credit ONLY 8 th graders can take this course Had to have taken Keyboarding (now Touch System Data Entry) in 7 th grade & passed the class in order to take this course.

Band
Band Performance evaluations in May determine band placement. Evaluations do not determine your child s ability to continue to participate in band. There are 5 ability level groups. Symphonic Band Concert One Band Concert Two Band Intermediate Band Beginning Band Band fees are based upon which ability level group your child is in. One time annual cost of $45 for Band Fair Share Fee and the cost of Band T- shirt for all participants. Other fees from $8 to $25 apply to specific activities your child s ability level group participates in, such as All-Region Band Auditions, Solo and Ensemble Contest, etc. Homework load consists of daily practice on the instrument. Several optional social events. Weekly sectionals for Symphonic, Concert One and Concert Two participants. Scheduled concerts, Solo and Ensemble Contest, and UIL Contest are curricular and participation is required. The number of performances depends upon your child s assigned ability level group.

Beginning Theatre Arts 7 th and 8 th grade class For students who have not taken Theatre Rotation or Full Year Theatre Students will be introduced to beginning acting techniques and the fundamentals of theatre production.
INTERMEDIATE THEATRE ARTS Open to 7 th and 8 th graders Requires a theatre course in 6 th or 7 th grade (includes Rotation) AND recommendation from Speech/Theatre Teacher We will focus on Acting and Technical Theatre This theatre course is designed for students who are planning to participate in all aspects of play production. Advanced 8 th Grade Theatre Only Arts Full Year Course You must have taken Intermediate Communication Applications or Intermediate Theatre AND have a teacher recommendation to be able to qualify for this class. We will focus on a variety of units that will prepare us to compete at 2 Theatre Tournaments and a One Act Play competition. This course is also responsible for the Fall Production.
INTERMEDIATE SPEECH Open to 7 th and 8 th graders ½ High School Credit You must have an 75+ average in your Language Arts/Reading class for the year to be able to take this class and a Speech/Theater teacher recommendation. You will learn to perform in a variety of ways such as acting out scenes or learning to deliver a speech in front of an audience. ADVANCED SPEECH 8 th graders only Completion of Professional Communications or Intermediate Speech and teacher recommendation required. Touch System Data Entry Would you like to be able to type fast when talking with your friends on Instagram and Twitter? Want to know how to type or input data on the computer without hunting for the keys? Want to be successful in school, college, or when you get a job? Want to earn high school credit while in middle school?
Touch System Data Entry 7 th & 8 th graders can take this course Learn how to use the touch method when on the computer keyboard Improve speed & accuracy Earn ½ high school credit by passing the class with a 70 average or higher Learn how to format documents (memos, email, letters, tables, reports, outlines, flyers, etc.)
Principles of Information 8 th graders only ½ High School Credit Technology Prepares students to adapt to emerging technologies used in the global marketplace.
