Dale Goldsmith will be acting principal during my absence. CONGRATULATIONS MRS ELLIS I am delighted to announce the arrival of Lola Ivy Ellis, born on February 20th weighing 7lbs 10oz. Both baby and Liana are doing well and Zoe already loves her little sister. RED BALLOON DAY On Tuesday 28th February we had a wonderful fence line covered in red balloons to support our local fire fighters. Thank you again to Marquita and Glen Telford and all their helpers who arrived early to prepare the balloons. Also, thank you to all the parents who arrived to help children tie their balloons to the fence and to The Basin CFA who brought a real fire truck some for the children to check out. The school raised over $600 which is a fabulous amount to donate to our local CFA. It s so important for children to be involved with their community! PREP FAMILY NIGHT We had an amazing number of prep families attend the Prep Family BBQ on Tuesday. It was lovely to see them all enjoying the games and dancing before joining their families for a BBQ. Thanks to Fiona Jackson who did the shopping for the BBQ and to the parents and our staff who helped with the preparation and packing up afterwards. This is such a wonderful annual event that brings our prep families together. CURRICULUM / PUPIL FREE DAY On Friday 9th June students are not required at school. All staff will be participating in a professional learning day focussing on Writing with Julie Shepherd. Please note that this date falls prior to the Queen s Birthday weekend so families may like to take advantage of an extra long weekend.

CONGRATULATIONS 2017 CAPTAINS I am delighted to announce the results of the various captain roles for 2017. I am very proud of our student leaders and confident the elected students will represent The Basin Primary School admirably. If we receive more nominations than positions, a ballot will need to take place. The Annual General Meeting will be held on Monday 20th March where we will hold elections for the positions of President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and conveners of the four sub committees - Finance, Buildings and Grounds, Publicity and Education. 2018 PREP ENROLMENTS School tours with parents of 2018 Prep students have commenced. As I conduct the tours, nearly all of these parents comment on the great things they hear about our school in the local community, which is a fantastic. If you have a little one starting next year please pick up an enrolment form at the office. DOGS IN THE PLAYGROUND I would like to remind parents that dogs are not permitted in the school grounds during the start and end of the day. I love dogs and have two myself, but with so many children and pre-schoolers around at the start and end of the day we don t want an accident with a child being accidently bitten. Thank you for your understanding! PHOTOGRAPHS/SOCIAL MEDIA Each year we have a number of parents who do not give permission for an image of their child to be used in any type of media. We respectively ask that parents taking photographs of their child that may include other students to not paste these pictures onto their Facebook and other sites. Some parents don't give permission for a number of very confidential and personal reasons and we need to respect that wish. TAKE HOME BOOKS The stocks are low! A reminder to parents and children to return the take home books to school. Please have a search, particularly in your child s bedroom, for any books that belong to TBPS.

STUDENT SUCCESS AT HEATHMONT COLLEGE Yesterday, several former Basin students were acknowledged at the Student Leadership Inauguration Ceremony. Zephyr Mitchell was presented with his Music Scholarship and was also awarded a position as an Ambassador. Breea Nunziante was presented as Year 7 Captain, a position she was nominated for and elected to, she was named as the school s Under 13 Swimming Champion as well as being successful in her application to become an Ambassador for the college. There were also successes in the Captain roles, including College Captain (Zoe) and Sport Captain (Gerard). This is a wonderful start to secondary school for these students and many proud parents attended the event to share their success. It is a great testament to The Basin PS that our students feel ready and confident take on these opportunities. Graeme Russell Principal
