CONAWAY ROAD GUYTON, GA 31312 TELEPHONE (912) 728-7511 FAX (912) 728-7529 Dear Parents, Guardians, and Members of the Class of 2015 March 31, 2015 Monday, May 18 th through Wednesday, May 20 th is Senior Week at South Effingham High School. This is a memorable and exciting week for both the seniors and the SEHS faculty as we plan and host our commencement activities. You are receiving an attachment outlining some key reminders that should help to make practice and the ceremonies go smoothly. I encourage you to read these carefully and call the school at 728-7511 ext. 1337 should you have any questions. All graduating seniors are allowed to leave campus each day immediately following graduation practice. All graduating seniors must be present each day for practice. There is no excuse for being late to these practices. Any unexcused absence could result in the student not being allowed to participate in class night or graduation. The only excused absence will be a death in the immediate family or personal illness (with a doctor s note). Students are expected to behave appropriately and follow school policies and regulations. Students are allowed to dress down in appropriate clothing for graduation practice. Students are to abide by the standards set for dress down days as if they were attending class during practice days. Students are to report to the designated place that is on the attached schedule. Once practice is over for the day, students are to leave campus. No senior is allowed in the school building after practice. All graduates are required to attend Class Night and Graduation. Students that do not wish to attend Class Night or Graduation will need to make an appointment to meet with me for approval. Any senior in questionable condition during graduation practice, on Class Night, or at Graduation will be removed from the line, will not be allowed to participate in the program, and will be turned over to law enforcement officials. This form must be signed and returned to Mr. Faith no later than Friday, May 8 th. Graduation and Graduation Week Activities Graduation Practice: Practice will be Monday, May 18 through Wednesday, May 20. You are to be in the gym and in your seat by 9:00 a.m. The first day of practice, you are to sit in the bleachers when you arrive. The Senior Breakfast will be on Tuesday, May 19 th. Once attendance is taken, we will report to the lunchroom for the breakfast. We will then go back to the gym and practice. The Senior Picnic/Water Day will be on Wednesday, May 20 th immediately after practice. The school dress code for dress down days will be in effect. This means no short shorts, half shirts, mini skirts, tank tops, togas, swim suits, etc. Any student not abiding by dress code will be asked to leave and will not be able to participate in senior week, Class Night, or Graduation. You are to report directly to the gym when you arrive at school and leave campus immediately following practice. You are not to be in the building after practice is over. Attendance: All seniors must be present each day for practice. The only excused absences will be a death in the immediate family or personal illness with a doctor s note. If you are late to practice, you will be expected to make-up the time on Friday to setup chairs. You must return the permission/intent form to Mr. Faith to leave early. Conduct: All regular school conduct will be in effect for all practice activities. Any violation of school policies will result in disciplinary action including the possibility of not being allowed to march with his/her class at Graduation or Class Night. Your diploma will be held until appropriate discipline has been fulfilled. Any senior in questionable condition at practice, Class Night, or Graduation will be removed, turned over to authorities, and will not be allowed to participate. Report Cards: Report cards will be given out during practice. Any senior not graduating will be notified accordingly. If you do not graduate, you may not participate in the graduation activities. You will need to see a counselor about getting into a summer school program to obtain the necessary credits. Upon completion of your graduation requirements, you will be awarded your diploma. Honor Graduates: Honor Graduates must have a cumulative grade point average of 89.5% or better for all four years of high school. All Honor Graduates will be announced at Class Night. All Honor Graduates will be given their honor cords and tassels at this time. The honor cord is to be worn on top of the stole. Baccalaureate Ceremony: Baccalaureate Ceremony will be Sunday, May 17 th at 4:00 p.m. at the Rincon First Baptist Church. Seniors wishing to attend should be at the church at 3:30 p.m. Dress appropriately for a formal church service, and students are to wear their Graduation Gowns (no caps). This is an optional ceremony. DVDs for sale: The South Effingham High School Graduation Ceremony will be recorded. If you would like a copy, DVDs must be pre-ordered during Senior Week. The cost for the DVD will be $20.

College Decision Day: College decision day will be recognized in the cafeteria on May1st beginning at 9am. Please submit the sheet provided during advisement, letter of acceptance, and a number count of those who will be attending to the counselors by April 24 th. Class Night: Class Night is on Thursday, May 21 st at 7:00 p.m. in the South Effingham High School gym. All senior honors, awards, and scholarships will be awarded at this time. Any senior that has received any form of scholarship or award needs to provide documentation to the counselor s office by May 8 th (see attached form). Seniors who have received such awards should check with a counselor to be certain that their names are scheduled on the Class Night program. You must be present and in the cafeteria by 5:45 p.m. We will line up in the main hallway of the school building. Dress: Seniors will wear GRADUATION GOWNS NO CAPS. Ladies should wear a black or dark colored dress or dark colored dress pants with a nice blouse and silver or dark shoes. Men should wear dark slacks and a white or very light colored shirt AND TIE and dark dress shoes. NO FLIP FLOPS or TENNIS SHOES! Remember to search our Scholarship page for local scholarships still available. Graduation: Graduation exercises will be on Friday, May 22 nd at 7:00 p.m. at the South Effingham High School football stadium. You must arrive at the school cafeteria no later than 5:30 p.m. ONLY graduates may enter the building. Students are expected to behave appropriately and follow school policies and regulations. Students are not allowed to bring cameras or video cameras on the field. Do not bring any personal belongings (camera, phone, purse, etc.) because the item(s) will be secured before graduation and will be given back to you when you pick up your diploma. After the graduation ceremony, you are to report to the Auxiliary Gym to get your diploma. You will only be given your diploma cover when you cross the stage. Final delivery date for Cap and Gowns will be April 28 th, payment of $53 cash only Dress: Ladies You must wear dark shoes or sandals. We strongly suggest low-heeled shoes as a safety precaution. Wear a dark colored dress or dark colored dress pants with a nice blouse under your gown. NO FLIP FLOPS!! Men You must wear dark slacks and a white or very light-colored shirt. NO BLUE JEANS! You must wear a tie, and you must wear dress shoes. No tennis shoes, work boots, or flip flops. Graduation Caps are to be worn flat on your head. Reminders: Please advise your family, friends, etc that they are not allowed in the area where the class will be lining up. They will not be allowed on the field during the graduation exercises for pictures or with video cameras. Students should consider car pooling with fellow classmates for practice, Class Night, and Graduation. Parking is at a premium for these events, and car pooling with your fellow classmates will help tremendously. Students will be assigned to park in the SEMS faculty parking area.

Handicapped Seating (2): If you have a family member that is in a wheel chair, uses a walker, or other assistive devices, please inform Mr. Faith to coordinate a seat for this family member and one other to assist them on the football field. Please have this information to Mr. Faith by May 15. Parents that work for the Effingham County Board of Education (4): It has been customary to allow parents that work for the Effingham County Board of Education the opportunity to sit on the field. However, this section is limited to only four seats per BOE employee family. Have your student inform Mr. Faith of your school location or Central Office location. Please have this information to Mr. Faith by May 15. Tickets will be given to the graduate during the week of practice. Senior Picnic & Water Day The Class of 2013 began a new and incredible tradition. SEHS will continue this tradition by providing the senior class with two giant water slides, the Coca- Cola wagon for refreshments, a Photo Booth, and our traditional cookout as we splash out the school year. DRESS: Swim attire is acceptable but t-shirts and shorts must be worn over bathing suits. Shirts must be worn. Location: Football Field Time: Immediately after practice until 3pm ****** No water guns, water balloons, inter tubes, life vest or any other unauthorized water device on campus. Anyone who violates this policy will not be allowed to participate in Class Night or Graduation Ceremonies. Senior Week Schedule Monday, May 18 th : Report to the gym by 9:00 a.m. Have a seat on the bleachers and we will start practice as soon as attendance has been taken. We will practice as long as necessary. Tuesday, May 19 th : Report to the gym by 9:00 a.m. Have a seat on the bleachers Report directly to your assigned seat. After taking attendance, we will report to the cafeteria for the Senior Breakfast. After breakfast, we will go back to the gym and practice as long as necessary. Wednesday, May 20 th : Report to the gym by 9:00 a.m., and report directly to your assigned seat. Practice will take as long as necessary. Immediately after practice, we will have the Senior Cookout and enjoy Water Day. Thursday, May 21 st : CLASS NIGHT!!! You must be in the cafeteria by 5:45 p.m. Be sure to follow directions of what you are to wear on class night. Friday, May 22 nd : GRADUATION!!! You must be in the cafeteria by 5:30 p.m. Be sure to follow directions of what you are to wear on graduation night. ***Please note that we need to vote on a Senior Song. Therefore, if there is a song that you would like to nominate for your Senior Song, you will need to turn in a CD with the song, as well as the lyrics. This needs to be turned in to Mr. Faith by May 8 th. We will vote on the Senior Song during Senior Week.

May 1 st is National College Decision Day! On Thursday, May 1st@ 9:00 am, Dr. Winters will host an SEHS Decision Day breakfast for seniors (and their parents), who have been accepted to college. In order to participate, you must submit a letter of acceptance (or printout from your college admissions online account) to the Counselors Office no later than Friday, April 24th. The letter you submit must be where you WILL BE ATTENDING, not every college to which you have been accepted. If you participate in the breakfast, please wear a tee shirt, jersey, or colors of your chosen college, so we can take pictures. We hope you and your parents will be able to join us on May 1st @ 9:00 am in the SEHS cafeteria!! Please complete the information below and return it with your acceptance letter.
