The Syracuse University College of Law National Immersion Externship Programs Application and Instructions In order to apply to one of the Syracuse Law Long-Distance Immersion Externship Programs ( Externship Program ), you must deliver the following documents via email to the appropriate faculty member for your chosen program: 1. Berger taberger@law.syr.edu Selection and Placement Process: After you have submitted your application packet, each prospective participant will be interviewed by Professor Turnipseed (DCEx), Kim Wolf-Price (NYEx and NYCEx), or Professor Berger (PHILLYEx). Following the interview, 25 participants will be selected to participate in the program in each semester. Each student will rank her top 3 desired placements and the corresponding faculty member will work to place each student with a desired placement. The placement attorney may wish to interview prospective participants before placement is official. Program Information: Minimum of one semester commitment, though you can go more than one semester Must be in Good Academic Standing (minimum GPA 2.2) 35 hours per week minimum time commitment at placement Academic year (fall and spring semesters): 12 credits in placement; two credits for the Lawyer Seminar Summer: five credits in placement; one credit for the Lawyer Seminar 1
Students are not permitted to take more than 30 total credits of externships, clinics, moot courts, trial teams, law reviews, etc. 64 of the credits you count toward graduation must be earned in courses that require attendance in regularly scheduled classroom sessions or direct faculty instruction. You may not include in those 64 credits those you have earned in any externship, in courses outside of the College of Law, in co-curricular activities, such as Moot Court, journal, or law review, or by participation in studies or activities in a country outside the US that are not law related. 2
