SOFTBALL GEAR 7 TH & 8 TH GRADERS Girls who try-out for softball need: Tennis shoes or rubber cleats (NO skateboard shoes or sandals) Appropriate practice clothing, including shorts or sweats and a t-shirt Headband or pony tail holder Water bottle (there is NO water on the field and it gets hot out there) We recommend a hat and/or sun glasses Recommend an 11 softball to leave at home and practice with A glove Size 12 to 14 Do not get a glove with extra padding in the palm...most of our girls are not strong enough to close the gloves with the extra padding and can t catch with this glove. Most gloves these days do not need a breaking in period and your daughter should be able to open and close it immediately so take them shopping with you Girls who play on the interscholastic team need: Everything above, but rubber cleats are required Softball cleats have a cleat at the front of the shoe (soccer cleats do not) fyi...we found softball cleats at the Nike outlet for less than $20. Black softball/baseball socks (any sporting goods store). Your daughter s uniform shirt cost will be announced as soon as the information is available. (It is typically no more than $18.00 and will be yours to keep). If your daughter makes the team again next year, she will be able to wear the same uniform. Payment for the uniform will be required on Monday, August 25th for those ladies who make the team. The school will provide the uniform shorts that need to be returned at the end of the season OR you may purchase BLACK softball pants. The school will also provide a practice t-shirt which is yours to keep DO NOT BUY A BAT! Most of our girls end up purchasing a bat that is too large so if you are interested in purchasing a bat for your daughter, please wait until we size her and then we will let you know what is a good length and weight for her. Please address equipment questions with your player s coach.

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS Softball is a sport with many skills to learn. After introducing the skill to the entire team, working on these skills in small groups at times is more effective than practicing as a team. The girls also get more individual feedback and playing time when there are additional adults helping. In addition, our games would be pretty tough without the wonderful volunteers we have to assist. Please consider helping out our teams in what ever way you can. Below is a list of ways you could help. Name: Daughter s name and grade: Cell phone number and email: I can help with practice (typically 3:30 until 5pm) Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday I know how to play slow pitch softball (or any softball) I am happy to learn I can help with games (7th grade typically from 3:30-4:45 pm and 8th grade typically from 4:30-5:45 pm) I can be score keeper I can be a dug out coach I can be a base coach I can bring water I can bring a snack I am available: 9/3 @ Timberview 9/9 @ Watson 9/11 @ DCC 9/16 @ Janitell 9/23 @ DCC 9/25 @ DCC 9/30 @ Challenger (8th Grade plays first) 10/2 @ DCC (8th Grade plays first) Pretty open, just call me
