NEWSLETTER Term 1, 2018 Dear Parents & Caregivers, Welcome to Week 5 What a busy and exciting couple of weeks we have had. Learning programmes continue to be focused and positive with Solidarity and Peace as our major lense for learning this term. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of my staff for their efforts over the past few weeks. Next week, we look forward to Learning Discussions. As part of the organisation for this we have a reminder that school is closing early next Tuesday (13/3) at 12:15pm. More details are included later in this newsletter. Our PTFA has events coming up that will provide opportunities for all of the families. Coming up soon, is the opportunity for Ice Skating or enjoying A Wrinkle in Time a night at the movies. Your involvement will not only be a great way to have fun, your contribution by taking part ultimately helps our school out through these great fundraisers. I would like to especially thank our PTFA group and all others who are involved. Last week we launched our involvement in the AIMS Games. Thank you to all of our parents who attended that meeting. Your commitment and involvement, along with key staff members will allow our students to compete at an elite level, be active, celebrate fair play and enjoy success. Basketball and netball trials will be held soon. Children will bring home more details in the coming week. Have a great week everyone. St Columba s Catholic School Learning Discussions Term 1 2018 Available Learning Discussion Times Tuesday, 13 March 1pm to 6pm (PLEASE NOTE: SCHOOL CLOSES AT 12.15PM) th Thursday, 15 March - 3pm to 8pm th Teachers will contact parents of students in Team 0/1 Years 0-2 to make an appointment at their birthday/half birthday - you will not be able to book online. We are encouraging all parents/caregivers of students in Years 3-8 to book a time to discuss your child s learning with their teacher. These 15 minute meetings are an opportunity to celebrate your child s strengths and discuss areas for development. Practical suggestions will be provided for ways you can assist your child s learning at home. The emphasis of these discussions is on your child s learning journey, should you have other things you wish to discuss, please arrange a suitable time at a later date. We strongly encourage students to attend these learning discussions. It would be preferable if siblings were not present. This year we will again use a web based booking system. Please go to www.schoolinterviews.co.nz and enter the Parent Code: rn5v8 and follow the prompts. The site is now open to make your bookings. If you have any difficulties or do not have access to a computer please contact the school office to make a booking. It would be preferable to ring outside of the following hours of 8.30-9am and 2-3pm, as these are our busy times. You will need to know your child s year level and their classroom teacher to make a booking. Teachers need to prepare for each discussion with parents by collating recent data, analysing this and planning next learning steps. For this reason please allow teachers time to prepare for your child s discussion by booking the time you wish the day prior. Bookings for Tuesday will close at 12.00 Noon on the Monday before. Bookings for Thursday will close at 12.00 Noon on the Wednesday before. Where bookings have been made before these times you will receive a copy of the Learning Discussion sheets the day before your appointment for you to look at and think about the information presented before you meet with the teacher. Requests received after these times will be passed on to the teacher who will be in contact about a suitable time for the discussion. Yours faithfully Gareth Duncan ** Please note that the School Office will be open during this time for any parents requiring any uniform requirements (especially for the winter uniform) and any other payments you may need to make ** Don t forget school closes at 12.15pm on Tuesday 13th March for Learning Discussions - please make sure you make arrangements for your child / children to be picked up, thank you.

All proceeds will go to Caritas for the people of Timor-Leste. Please note that the First Holy Communion/Confirmation classes will be starting again early this year if you would like your child to receive the Sacraments, they will need to be baptised first.
