Job Advert TEACHER OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION PREP SCHOOL Date of advert: April 2018

Brighton College Abu Dhabi wishes to recruit a Teacher of Physical Education for our Prep School Brighton College Abu Dhabi, the sister school of Brighton College UK, is a leading Independent-style British International School located in the United Arab Emirates. With a prime location on Abu Dhabi Island and a purpose built state-ofthe-art campus, which is nearing its seventh anniversary. A key component of Brighton s internationalization is the importance it places upon ensuring that its sister schools are authentically interpreting its values and ethos. Each school combines academic excellence with a wealth of extra-curricular opportunities, all underpinned by a deep commitment to the individual needs and enthusiasms of every child, and each values the importance of the individual: every boy and girl in the Brighton family of schools is valued for his or her own sake and encouraged to develop his or her talents to the full, in a community where there are no stereotypes and where every achievement, however small, is noticed. Brighton s success is built upon recruiting genuinely inspirational teachers who can enthuse about their subject and will help to create an exciting and vibrant intellectual environment in which children can explore their interests, develop their existing talents and acquire new ones. We are currently seeking to appoint experienced, well-qualified, and inspirational teachers to join us for the 2018/2019 academic year. This is a unique opportunity to join an exceptional and hardworking team with the united goal of ensuring that every child reaches their potential both academically and socially, by pushing boundaries and broadening horizons. Our positioning as one of the leading academic schools in the Middle East, is testament to the dedication and hard work of our common room. Packages are amongst the best globally with an excellent basic salary and comprehensive benefits. We also offer exceptional levels of financial support for Continuing Professional Development. The Prep School We aim to give our pupils a full and exciting school experience, with the united goal of ensuring that every child reaches their potential both academically and socially, by pushing boundaries and broadening horizons. Children in Years 3, 4 and 5 continue to have the security of a class teacher. However, unlike many other schools this changes in Year 6. At this age children are ready for something different and specialist teaching is introduced. Children in Year 6 are at the right age to really benefit from this; their thirst for knowledge and love of learning makes them ready for the challenge. The benefit of having teachers who are passionate about their subject is invaluable. 2

Also unique to the Prep School system is that, in Year 7, instead of becoming the youngest in the Senior School, pupils begin two years at the top of the Prep School. They become young leaders and role models, gaining enormously from this opportunity. The academic challenge is continued as pupils prepare for their first external examinations and sit the Common Entrance (CE). This curriculum reflects Key Stage 3 but is completed a year earlier. CE is excellent training for our young pupils, teaching them the fundamentals of exam technique and revision skills providing a strong foundation for Senior School, whilst also giving our pupils direct transferability to top UK schools. The Physical Education (PE) Department Members of the PE department are passionate about the delivery of the curriculum from FS1 to Year 13. Through the use of pioneering teaching and coaching methods, teachers bring sport to life for all our pupils. As a cohesive team, the department actively review and reflect to maintain outstanding teaching and learning. The teachers encourage pupils to focus on individual progress within the curriculum by ensuring teaching is stimulating, varied and creative. The programme offered in PE is firmly based on inclusion and aims to incorporate the notion of fair play throughout. In addition, we strongly believe that competitive sport is an essential component and pupils of all abilities have an opportunity to take part in a wide variety of sports, including regular residential sports trips. The College has a large PE centre including a dedicated GCSE and A Level teaching area, a large sports hall, a modern 25m outdoor pool, a dance studio, a well equipped gymnasium with both fixed and free weight training areas as well as cardio vascular equipment. The outdoor facilities provide an all-weather, artificial football pitch, rugby pitch, cricket pitch and running track. The College also uses natural pitches at Zayed Sports City, located an 8-minute bus drive away. PERSON SPECIFICATION The successful candidate for this challenging and rewarding position will have at least two years experience with a distinguished record of teaching. Essential qualities will include the ability to work collaboratively and to present to parents, pupils and colleagues a warm, engaging and approachable personality. The successful candidate will have a Bachelor s degree in Education or in another related field with a specialised educational qualification in the field of the teaching subject for a specific stage. All qualifications must have been attained from a recognised educational institution. Degrees must be attested and accompanied with your academic transcript. This is essential to obtain a local licence to teacher in the UAE. A strong record of professional development Working knowledge of UK best practice in primary school teaching, learning and assessment 3
